Two years later.

"Dad," I spoke softly. Stood before my eyes was a red-brick building with the sign The Commons Building 3-A. This is what I would be calling home for the next couple of months.

"I'm here." I watched as other students passed by with suitcases and duffle bags in hand. I was finally away. The car still on, wist cold air across my face, pinching my cheeks as the windows rolled down held the august hotness.

"That's great, make sure you lock up the car and don't leave anything," my dad said with a nervous voice. Car honking behind me warned my dad that it was college and there was nothing bad that was going to happen, well hopefully.

"Dad it's not like I'm in a different state, I'm just a couple hours away and this community is well managed. I have to get unpacking, can you tell mom I love her and the girls too?" I asked my dad with hope that he'll hang up quickly and won't argue. Knowing him though he won't.

"You know I don't believe anywhere is safe without you being next to me. I still don't know why you didn't go to the University of El Paso, it was right here...." I had to stop him before he spoke more.

"Yes dad I know. But I had to get away, you know how mom was. I have to go," by the way he sighed I knew he understood. I really didn't want to think back to my mother's attitude towards me, it was cold-heart-ed, she was cold-heart-ed.

"Okay well be careful and call us later after you've gotten your books and stuff." "Bye, love you," I hung up and unlocked the doors. I grabbed my two duffel bags out of the back of the car and tossed them over my shoulder.

Inside the building there were many students scattered across the room. Girls shouting and laughing at boys that obviously wanted nothing more than to make "friends". I still wonder how I ended up coming here and not New York University. Looking at the bright orange walls and the blue and green furniture made it easier to feel relax and it look nothing like home which made it more serene.

Entering on the left was the counter, a guy around my age with bright sea blue eyes was seated behind playing on his phone, "Excuse me." He was alerted of my presence, but not because I spoke.

"Hey Christina," he said to a girl with an intolerable amount of makeup and shorts that exceeded the size to be considered panties. She brushed her long auburn hair towards the back and smiled sweetly at him, "Hey Josue, you mind getting me my key?" He didn't disobey.

"Excuse me, I was here first," I wasn't going to allow some hazy girl cut, I was here first and these bags were heavy.

He turned back towards me, he shook his head, "Sorry she was here first." I knew he was only doing this because any guy would bow to this girl's body. She turned towards me with a wicked smile.

"Here you go," he answered back after fumbling through keys in a file cabinet. She took it out of his hand and repeated that same reluctance smile,"We still on for tonight?" She giggled,"Sorry I have to study." She walked away with her suitcase rolling behind her, I knew she was coming from money, because no Louis Vuitton suitcase was inexpensive, unless it was fake, but by the way it shined it wasn't.

"Now can I have my key?" I asked him trying to catch his attention away from her butt. He eyed me with a weird grin, one you saw on a pedophile. "Sure, what's your name?"

"Alessa Foster, so what's up with you and her? Who is she?" I questioned. I wanted to know who this obnoxious girl was, and hopefully had nothing to do with her.

"Who Christina? Her dad is Chief Executive Officer of Ford in the Texas division. She's majoring in business," he replied while getting my key.

"So why is she here? Couldn't she afford to go somewhere better?" I had no idea why I was asking she was none of my business. Well lucky me she wasn't going into engineering.
