I had always believed in true love
A special person who would sweep me off my feet and just make everything better once they were around
But just like every other day, as I got pushed by Jack Minton
to
everytime the girls curled their blond hair and casually pushed me aside
to
the way uncle Tom's fat hand caressed my back just a little while longer whenever he hugged me.
Silent nights, behind closed doors,
I'd come to understand, I didn't have what it takes to turn a beast into a prince
or
to turn a pumpkin into a chariot
or
even to get a simple slipper to fit.
Then you saw me and I saw you.
Could I have been wrong all this while did I really have a happy ever after.
I mean,
you made me feel all the things in the books,
so maybe this was my happy ending.
I let you in and somewhere deep within, this all felt too good to be true
but
after all life had thrown at me, I deserved this much,
didn't I?
So I shut my mind to all the red flags
Saying this was the pain that came with love.
Saying, this was only temporary.
This was the price that had to be paid
Wasn't this what I wanted?
To be loved??
