Bonus Chapter: Christmas Special

It was December, and it was the middle of winter break, nearing Christmas. The air of San Fransokyo had a crisp chill to it, and Christmas lights were put up everywhere you go. One would immensely enjoy a walk in the city or time spent with family, but the sound of pencil on paper can still be heard within one of the classrooms in a campus building.

It was mid-evening, the sun having past the horizon, letting the glow of night encompass the city.

All the students and teachers were no longer on campus, being winter break and all, but one lone student decided to stay just a little bit longer.

"So if I cool the rubidium to absolute zero..."

Jocelyn sat at one of the long lab tables in the classroom. Spread across the top of the table were various books and papers, all having some complicated charts and formulas written on them, and a few had some diagrams of machines and atoms.

Jocelyn was hunched over a piece of paper, writing out yet another long formula. Her black hair was up in a messy bun so that her hair wouldn't obscure her vision, but her thick black glasses were on the tip of her nose, and she had to squint to see nonetheless.

Suddenly, the door to the classroom opened, causing Jocelyn to turn toward it, surprised. No one's supposed to be here but me...

A head popped in, a black San Fransokyo Ninjas cap adorning it. Brown eyes scanned the room for something.

"Tadashi?" Jocelyn called.

"Huh?" Tadashi's eyes finally noticed Jocelyn. "Jocelyn? What are you doing here?" He moved in to fully step into the room. He was wearing a black sweater with a red, untucked collared shirt underneath and black jeans.

"I should be asking you that." she rebutted, raising an eyebrow. "It's the winter break, and Christmas is coming up soon. Shouldn't you be with your family?"

Tadashi rubbed the back of his head and adjusted his messenger bag on his shoulder. "I could say the same for you."

"Oh, this?" Jocelyn gestured to the work-filled table. "I'm just editing some things on my project. I'm making it a bit easier to work with since it isn't working yet, so I'm modifying some formulas."

She leaned back in her chair, "That and my parents have this party to go to today, so I have no one waiting for me at home."

Jocelyn cocked her head to the side, "Now that's my excuse. What's yours?"

"Me? Oh, uh," Tadashi fiddled with his bag strap, "I forgot a folder in this classroom and I had just realized it, but," he looked around again, "it seems like someone must've gotten it for me."

Jocelyn nodded. She didn't notice anything left behind when she got here a few days ago to continue working on her project, so that was most likely to happen.

"Well," she said, turning back to her work, "I'll let you get to it then. Have a nice break and a merry Christmas."

She had just started on her calculations once more when she spotted a bit of black in her peripherals. She looked up again to see Tadashi standing next to her table, peering curiously at her work.

"Do you need something else?" she asked him. She was a bit confused as to why he was still here. Surely he had a family to spend time with.

"Oh! Um," his back straightened like he'd been caught doing something bad, "I couldn't help but notice that you said your parents were out today."
