                          1905

A young girl ran around the long fields of grass picking flowers. She was weaving them together into crown as she hummed a tune that her mother would sing to her before she went to bed. As she was focused in the weaving of the stems of the flowers, she didn't realize another nearby.
"What are you doing?" Her head turned seeing a boy about her age. He had dark hair and brown eyes. She smiles thinking that the boy was very cute.
"Making a flower crown. What's your name?" She asks her.
"James. James March." The young boy introducing himself with a smile.
"My name is Rosie. Rosie Johnson." She says and then looks down at her flower crown then back up at James.
"You can sit with me if you want to." She offers him as she pats a spot next to her on the grass. James smiles and sits down next to her watching her make the flower crown.
Rosie began asking him questions and James did the same to her as well. Questions like what their favorite color was or what their favorite food is. They also asked each other about their families. Rosie learned that James didn't really have a nice father but his mother was always kind and gentle. She began to feel bad for the boy so she told him that he was always welcome to come to her hours or meet her in the fields if he needed an escape from his home.
As the days grow hotter throw out that summer, James and Rosie continued to meet each other almost everyday. It would either in the fields or at her house. Her mother had met James and was happy to see that her daughter had a friend.
Rosie and James were sitting by a tree one day eating apples. James was cutting them up into pieces until he noticed her looking a bit sad.
"What's wrong Rosie?" He asks her concerned about his friend.  The young girls sighs and looks over at her friend. She didn't want to tell him the news of what her parents had told her that morning. But she knew that she had to.
"My folks and I are moving away." She sighs.
"Really? That really can't be a bad thing." James says with a shrug of his shoulders.
"We're moving the California. My dad got a job there. He said it would be the best for us." She then adds in and looked at James seeing the shock on his face.
"But that's so faraway!" He exclaimed,"We'll never be able to see each other!"
"My mom says that we can write to each other and maybe one day we'll see each other again." She says trying to calm him down a bit from his outburst with a little bit of hope.  She then noticed a look in his eyes a look that only meant he had an idea. Rosie was always skeptical of his ideas sometimes, but most of them they were enjoyable.
"I'll get a job and once I get enough money I'll be able to move out by myself and go live in California." He smiles towards his friend.
"But James that will take a long time. Plus how are you going to get a job? You're just a kid." She tells him.
"Don't worry Rosie.  Once I move to California we'll be able to see each other." He then takes her hands in his and looks into her pretty (e/c) eyes.
Rosie couldn't help but smile and she saw the hope and determination that James had and that his plan would work.
"Alright then promise me that you won't forget about me when you get to California." She holds out her pinkie for him to take. James happily takes his pinkie into his own.
"I promise I won't forget you when I move to California." He smiles at her. Rosie began to feel her cheeks to blush a bit. She really did like James a lot and was beginning to feel sad that she wouldn't be able to see him for a long time.
"What's with that sad look for Rosie?" James then asks her.
"I'm just going to miss you James." She says as she tries to not show any tears.
James kept hold of her pinkie as he looked into her eyes.
"I promise Rosie. I won't forget this promise and I won't forget you." He says with determination, he began to feel suddenly nervous.
"But now I want you to promise me something." He tells her. Rosie nods her head in response.
"Promise me that when I get to California you and I will always be together." He says.
Rosie couldn't help but smile as she leaned in and kisses his cheek sweetly.
  "I promise."
