I should have known.
Georgie didn't berate me about the car, actually. But I had really hoped that that was the cause for her visit.
In fact, her reason for being here was what I was avoiding.
She wanted me to come back with them.
Oh, how I should have known this was coming! Why was I so stupid as to not realize that she was here because she was taking me back? Jeez.
"You want me to come back?" I asked stupidly.
She nodded. "Yes! I've been going crazy over there without you. Did you not know that it is such a bore in that house with only four gigantic brothers watching you like a hawk twenty-four-seven?" she exclaimed, making big hand movements with every pressuring words she said.
"Oh, my God," she continued, "we were all looking for you! It's like we were in Lost, and one of our fellow castaways was missing in a jungle full of furniture and white walls!" she practically shrieked, her eyes turning saucer wide even more. And then they suddenly narrowed and she pointed one long, gloved finger at my chest, poking it. "And don't you think you will escape me for not being super angry at you for stealing my poor baby," she said in a low, dangerous voice. "I haven't even used that Beetle yet because I still have to practice my driving skills, and you used it before me! Axel was practically laughing so hard, I thought he was going to fart because, of all the cars in our garage, the only one that hasn't been used has been kidnapped! Oh God, I am going to hyperventilate."
As I saw Georgie fanning herself with two hands, I took in a breath and looked at her face. "I'm really sorry about the car, Georgie," I murmured, sincerely. "I was supposed to take it back, but the weather is just too awful that I can't let the guys who'd be bringing the truck to you be at risk." Which was true, since the weather was turning more awful by the day. I couldn't even understand Owen, since he usually came out of the house and brought wood for the fire with no jacket. I was practically freezing my butt off.
Georgie's beautiful face softened. "It's okay, Venise," she said gently. "I'm sorry for shouting at you also. I'm kind of having a mental moment." Then she held my hand with her gloved one, and looked at me with huge violet eyes. "Please come home with us...there are so many things we wish to tell you. So many things, and --"
I blinked. "What kind of 'things'?"
She sighed. "It's not for you to know now, unless you come home with me. We think that you have, like, the right to know about everything now because we're already feeling that you're...changing. Somehow. Which is kind of strange since all of us thought there are no more of our kind other than the ones in our small society."
I still had to register this one. What was she talking about? "What do you have to tell me? And what's this about you guys not thinking that there's still some of your 'kind'? And what society?" I was having an observaculosis moment again, which was pretty rare in the past two days of my stay at Owen's.
"Just please come with me," Georgie begged. "We'll tell you everything when we get there. Just not now..." She looked at all directions, dropping her voice to a low whisper. "Not while we're here."
"Why are you whispering?" I asked.
She straightened up. "Well, since maybe that Owen hottie might be listening by."
"I'm pretty sure he's not, since he's busy in his garage with his car."
Owen "hottie" was too busy. But I know he was getting wrapped up, what with Georgie showing out of nowhere and knowing where I was at, even though she already said that she asked "psychics."
