*I have not read this over, just as a disclaimer, so feel free to correct me. I don't mind. I cut this chapter in half because it was like 4000 words or something stupid like that so there will be at least 2 parts for this first chapter.*
(I also suck at describing things, this was SO much better in my head.)
Prologue
A Hydra Base - 1999
We start here. When I was 14 years old. This is where the incident happened. The incident that would change my life forever.
The room was dull, slightly illuminated by the glow of the computer screens. Even though I was strapped to a large piece of metal, I felt dizzy. I realised there was also a metal mouthguard stuffed in my mouth. I tried to spit it out, but it was really jammed in there. A doctor came over and said something, but my ears were ringing so loud, I couldn't hear him. But it must've been something like, 'She's awake!' because another doctor-looking person came over to me. My eyelids felt heavy, there was a sharp pain in my right wrist. I managed to look down slightly, and saw he was jabbing me with a needle. I clenched my jaw. I didn't know what they were doing to me, but it stung so bad.
As a child who had extraordinarily amazing fighting skills, a high level of intelligence and a knack for getting into and out of trouble, I was a perfect test subject for illegal operations and experiments. Up until this moment, I had been with this lab at least 6 different times. It was dumb, being thrown from place to place, but I didn't really have a choice.
Then the doctor injected my left wrist. What was this stuff? I thought. It was burning the inside of my arms. I felt it go from my wrist to fingertips. Then from my wrist to my shoulder. It sent shockwaves through my body. It felt like lightning, or metal. I passed out again right after.
I still felt it. Even though I had passed out, I felt it. I didn't know what it was, but it helped me remember. It helped me remember my life before this...
Flashback - 1991
A little 6 year old girl and a 9 year old boy were lying on the ground looking at a comic book. The boy was reading it out loud as they both looked at the pictures.
The little girl pointed at the man in the red, white and blue outfit. "I'm gonna be like him one day!" She said, admiring his shield. It was also red, white and blue with a star in the middle.
"Nah, I'm gonna be like him, he's cooler," the boy said, pointing to the red, white and blue mans sidekick. It was another man with a gun. "I'm gonna be like him, and I'm never going to miss!" He said, getting up and standing in a fighting position.
The girl giggled. Her brother always missed. No matter what he tried, he would always miss. She looked back at the man then closed the comic book. One day, she thought. One day....
On the front it read: 'Captain America'. He had died during the Second World War when he sacrificed his life by crashing a plane filled with bombs into the ocean to sane the lives of everyone in America.
He was her hero. She promised herself every single day that no matter what happened, she would remember what he did to save thousands, most likely millions, of people. And the girl would always try to live up to that. As much as possible.
She sat looking at the comic book, studying every single bit of it. From the brightly coloured words, to the bullets coming out of the other man's gun. Her brother was still jumping around the living room, kicking at imaginary super heroes. After looking at the comic for another minute, she ran into the kitchen and grabbed the lid off of one of the pots, and joined him. Using the pot lid as her shield.
Flashback overI felt like I wanted to cry. I had been trying to remember that day for years. It was the day I was taken. We had gone to the park, then someone came up and took me while I was hiding during hide and seek. They put a mask thing over my face and I passed out straight away. Then we left. They took me from my brother, my friends... and my comics. My parents died earlier that same day, after we left for school, and we ran away to the park to help each other feel better.
"She's flatlining!" One of the other doctors said, as I felt a large blast of pain and I couldn't move. 'Is this what dying feels like?' I thought. My stomach was folding in on itself and I couldn't breathe. Then nothing. Nothing. I was dead. At least, I thought I was.
A big blast came out of the nothingness. I was thrown across the room and the metal thing I was strapped to was squishing me. My head was throbbing and my wrists still felt like hell. I tried to wriggle my way out from under the thing. I managed to get part of the way out and then saw the rest of the room. Everything inside it had been blown to bits and there wasn't anyone else there. Good. I thought, they might've done horrible things to me, but some of them were kidnapped like me, they didn't have a choice.
I managed to free my arms from the thing I was strapped to, but my feet were set I'll stuck and this thing was squishing me more every second. I took the mouthguard out and started to sweat, I realised that the room was on fire. It was getting closer. I started pulling on the straps that were trapping my ankles.
The room was starting to heat up. I was sweating really bad and then more of the roof started to fall. Then something I didn't expect happened, another blast. This one didn't harm me, it just threw everything apart from me against the wall. I pulled myself onto my feet and looked around, everything was on fire, and all the doors, tables, everything was against that one wall.
The roof started to crumble again, I saw it then started to run. I had to get out of there, I couldn't die. Not here. Not now. Not before I killed whoever did this to me and my family.
When I came out of the room, I saw a hallway with 3 doors. I opened all of them, looking for a way out. The first one was on fire. The second one was empty, and the third one was a stairwell. I ran as fast as I could down the stairs. I went down 3 levels when there was another blast. I held on to the railing for support, but this one was longer. It blew away the next part of the metal stairs and was about to rip mine out of the wall when I jumped over the railing.
I jumped over the railing and shrunk into a ball with my hands over my head. The blast stopped and I got up. I saw through the doors in front of me, the cause of the blast. It was so mesmerising, I couldn't help but walk towards it. It was a wave of blues, purples, pinks and oranges. It was so beautiful. As I approached it, I felt it pulling me in, it's like I could see my whole life in the waves of it. I don't know what it was, but when I finally got up to it, I put my hand in the colourful cloud. Then a blast came that the other ones could never live up to. I fell into the pool of scientist's corpses.
