Aches rattled through her bones as her head pounded harshly. The car window was cold against her skin from where she was resting her head on it, she tried to avoid letting any of her blood drip down into the car from the small cuts from her body and split lip. Each bump in the road shot a spike of pain through her battered body, the movement almost brought winces out of her body, but she endured it and kept quiet.

Ophelia coughed lightly and smothered a sound of pain when the pain in her head increased. The streetlights beamed their light through the window and onto the now slightly purpled colour of her skin, which contrasted against her tanned skin. She couldn't help but notice that her care worker kept glancing at her through the rear-view mirror, there was an evident look of concern on the woman's face, as there had been for nearly the entire journey so far, even before they got into the car.

The girl had been found in a normal house in a normal neighbourhood, but her life was far from normal. The only clothes she had was uniform that the school provided and one other outfit, both were majorly too small for her. She was underweight and she cowered away from loud noises and bangs, Ophelia was used to living quietly and avoiding the other people in her household.

Trance was broken when the car slowed to an almost complete stop, Ophelia took her head off of the glass and saw that they were turning in towards a big, old house. There was a singular light on in the house, it was reaching half past five in the morning then, so it was no surprise that the other kids inside were not awake yet. She had been found at two in the morning, but it took her a long time to calm down enough to go with the care worker and the police that had been brought with her. Ophelia hadn't yet come around to the idea of a group care home, she had almost been placed in one before but the care worker at that house was persistent that she didn't need it – clearly now she did

"Come on Ophelia," Her care-worker spoke softly to her as the car drew to a stop and she stepped out of it, "careful as you step out."

Her legs ached as she swung them out the door and stepped onto the gravel which crunched under her feet as her battered shoes hit the ground. She looked up and saw a sign that read "Elm Tree House."

The care-worker grabbed her singular bin bag that housed her measly belongings, things like gifts from her mother and photos of the two of them together, before her mother left her with her father two years ago and a couple of frayed old books. Ophelia limped gently around the car and put a majority of her weight onto her left leg, her care worker offered to support her walking, but Ophelia flinched away harshly.

Once she got around the side of the car, the front door to the house opened and showed a bald man stood in the doorway, he had a friendly look about him and a fairly large belly. Her care-worker walked towards the man and conversed with him until Ophelia caught up to them both.

"You must be Ophelia, Ophelia Hamilton?" The man asked as he turned to Ophelia, he spoke very softly and made sure his tone wasn't loud enough to shock her. "I'm Mike, you'll meet the other care-workers, Tracy and Gina, in the morning."

Ophelia just nodded and didn't lift her eyes from the ground, her care-worker then handed over her bin bag of things to the man. The girl felt detached from her body as she walked into the large house, she followed behind the man until they reached a very large kitchen. Mike gestured towards the kitchen counter slowly, moving in a way as to not scare Ophelia, it was clear that the girl had some issues with adults and struggled to trust them.

"Would you like something to eat?" Mike asked kindly as he placed down her bag of things onto the floor, "You can have anything you want."

When Ophelia didn't answer, the man just contained a sigh and pulled a box of cereal from the shelf, he couldn't make a proper meal, but breakfast would be in two hours anyways. As he got everything out for her, he couldn't help but think that she would need to be sorted out quickly otherwise the others would be very surprised at not only her arrival but also her appearance.
