"Everyone, this is Alex Liu!" the manager yelled across the room.
Twenty three year old Henry Lau lifted his head to inspect the new arrival. Their eyes connected for a second, and he gasped.
'Alex' was quite short, with a strong facial structure, playful eyes and short, brown hair. He wiggled his eyebrows at the group gathered, but Henry had no doubt in his mind.
Alex was a she.
"Why is there a girl here?" he demanded.
"I'm a boy," Alex insisted. He greeted the rest of the trainees gathered.
"Why are we all here?" Henry asked, crossing his fingers in his lap as they all turned to the manager.
The manger smiled suddenly. "We're forming a boy group and we'd like you all to be in it."

"You're too smart for your own good," Alex hissed at Henry once the other members had left to go through the contract.
"What do you mean?" Henry smirked.
Alex rolled his eyes. "I'm a girl, okay?"
Henry punched the air. "I totally called it!"
"Yeah, well, I heard SN Entertainment were making a boy band."
"Why not audition as a girl?"
"'Girl's Year' only debuted six months ago," Alex explained. "SN won't be making any new ones for a while."
"Fair point." Henry couldn't be bothered to argue. "Um...what's your real name?"
"Amber."
"I see."
"So, shall we go and sign the contract?"

"Alex, I don't think we were properly introduced," Jongdae said, holding out his hand formally. "My name's Kim Jongdae, and I'm the makn-- wait, when's your birthday?"
"The eighteenth of September," Amber grinned.
"Yes!" Jongdae gasped. He clutched at his chest happily. "I'm still the youngest!"
"Where did you train?" Another band member, Baekhyun, asked. "They wouldn't just throw you into a band with no training."
"It's just an obscure company," Amber said quickly.
The final band members, Jinki and Kibum, who had chosen the stage names Onew and Key respectively, were watching 'Alex' with interest. 'He' was a new entity, a new focus.
"Guys," Onew said, clapping his hands to get everyone's attention. "I think we should get to know each other better. Make a circle."
"Who made you leader?" Jongdae joked, putting his hands on his hips in imitation.
"Guess," Onew said sarcastically. Then he broke into a smile. "Come on."
