Chapter 2

Charms is definitely her worst subject, Nora concluded as she furiously scribbled out a line of her work. Flinging a glare towards Professor Flitwick, who had set this sodding practice N.E.W.T question for the class. To Nora's horror, everyone else in the class seemed to be near the end of their parchment sheet. Nora stared down at her measly four lines.

Yes, Charms was definitely her worst subject...

"Having trouble?"

"Just a little..." Nora said.

"Damn... Now who am I meant to copy from?" Sirius sighed, sitting back in his chair.

"Here's a crazy idea... Why don't you do your own work?"

Sirius shook his head, looking at Nora almost pityingly, "I have a perfect record of never having done a piece of my own work, I'm not going to ruin it now."

Nora opened her mouth to lecture him about what was he going to do when it came to his exams when another voice joined the conversation.

"Would you two like to shut up?" Lily said, turning around from the seat in front. Nora smiled apologetically and Sirius grinned, to Lily's annoyance, who turned back around, shaking her head.

Sirius stuck his tongue out at her back.

"You know I'm not going to be able to give you the answers in the exams, right?" Nora whispered.

Sirius shrugged, "I'll figure that out when the time is closer-"

"-I still hear talking!" Lily hissed over Sirius' whisper to Nora. Nora covered a small laugh with a cough and turned back to her own work.

She racked her brains for something else to write down, so the amount of work she had done wouldn't look so pathetic, but came up short. Running a hand through her hair - still blue - she glanced up at the clock Professor Flitwick had enlarged at the front of the class and to her horror, saw that she had less than 10 minutes to complete the essay.

Sod it, she thought, shaking her head at her parchment, It's not like it's a real test anyway.

Nora smiled at the fact that it was lucky Lily couldn't read thoughts, because if Lily could, she would most definitely be lecturing her on the importance of practicing exam questions. And Merlin knew how much she hated lectures from Lily...

"Alright class," Professor Flitwick called from the front of the class, "We'll wrap it up there... How was it?"

There was a murmur of "yeah" s and "okay" s, which Nora did not contribute to; Lily nodded her head fervently.

"Excellent, excellent, now - pass your papers to the end of the rows, and then off you go - well done!" The Professor said. The students all made sure their names were on their parchment before handing it to the person next to them. Nora gripped hers tightly, and almost didn't want to hand hers over to Lucas Hemming, a fellow Gryffindor that sat next to Nora. He smiled and pried it out of her hands though, and she sighed as she watched it fall into the pile.

A scraping and clattering of chairs echoed in the classroom as the students filed out the class. Friends met at the doorway, and they started chatting about how they had "failed, for sure." or, as one Ravenclaw "thank Merlin I read that chapter about Extension charms last night..."

"Glad that's over..." Nora sighed as the three Gryffindors met outside the class, "Where you going next?" she asked the others as they rounded a corner and approached the staircase Nora would soon be going up.

"Er..."

"Sirius, you have Transfiguration," Lily reminded him, rolling her eyes, "We've been at school almost three months, how do you not know your timetable?"
