Giuseppe's passion lay within his craftsmanship, chipping away at a stone until it revealed the perfect human figure beneath. In his sculptures, there were no mortal imperfections, no scars or bruises, no asymmetric features. The cold marble, guided under his skilled hands, is what he believed to be the true representation of beauty and life
That is, until the summer of 1533, when he met a boy who showed him that there is beauty to be found in flaws. There is beauty to be found in flesh and blood and Giuseppe thinks he might just fall in love with him, bruises and all.

Outside, the rain is unforgiving as it falls heavily towards the ground, seeping through the clothes of those who dare to walk through it and chilling them to the bone. It's midday and incredibly dark out, a rare occurrence in the usually beautiful climate of Italy.
Inside the small, dilapidated apartment, it's warm and safe. The cushions are soft against his back and his lover fits perfectly against his side. These are the days that he lives for, when the world seems to come to a stand still and nothing matters but the two of them. These are the days that are too rare but he treasures them all the more for it.
The flames flickering from the candles create minimal lighting, but it's just enough for him to admire toned arms and long torso. Eyes gleam just beside where he rests his head and lips find their way to his naked shoulder. There, they press and whisper promises and words of devotion.
This, he thinks, is why mortals dream of heaven.
