I sat, shivering, in the room of requirement, the feeble warmth provided by the flickering fire in the hearth did nothing to ease my cold. The room was bare and simply furnished, with only two couches and a table. An ornate rug lay on the wooden floor, its corners frayed, the pattern dulled by age, it was far from homely but it was sufficient. Alice and I had left the stadium early, she sat beside the fire, watching my constant shivering. Outside faint cheers sounded, I imagined Potter to be showing off in some way.
"Mia... You need help" Alice whispered.
"Who can I possibly turn to, Alice? There is no one who can help" I replied, equally quietly.
"Snape?" She suggests.
"No" I snap immediately "I don't trust him"
"Why not? He can help you, he could teach you Occlumency, that'll stop these dreams"
"It's not the dreams Alice, it's me... something is happening to me"
"It's all in your head Mia"
"No it's not!" I screech.
I stare at her, stonily, she meets my glare with an unreadable expression.
The door swings open and Hailee, Draco and Arielle enter. Our heads snap towards the door, as if trying to guiltily cover up our disagreement. I look for Sebastian, but he is not with them.
"Where's Sebastian?" I exclaim.
"He's in the hospital, he broke his arm during the task and Madame Pomfrey wants him to get some rest, nothing serious" Draco replies.
"Oh"
"Have you two been arguing again?" Draco laughs. Arielle and Hailee look towards Alice nervously.
"It's not funny" I snap.
"What is it? Are you okay?" He says, sounding concerned.
"Do I look okay?" I ask quietly.
"What's up Lily?" Hailee asks.
"If I tell you, will you promise you won't laugh?"
"I'm your friend, why would I?" She replies.
I smile softly then begin "for a week or so now, I have been haunted by the most terrible dreams nothing I do can keep them at bay... But they're not ordinary dreams, they tell the future. A future so terrible and frightening... the worst bit is I can't see how it came to be... My dreams have a recurring motif, the serpent and the lion. They fight then I choose a victor, but whichever I choose the outcome is the same. Death"
"Mia, are you sure they aren't just regular nightmares?" Arielle interrupts.
"Yes, I'm sure, but it's not just the dreams, there's someone else in my head... Not unlike the incident in third year"
"This can't be the same though, the basilisk is dead"
"I know that!" I half shout.
"Mia" Alice begins.
"Its something dark, I just know it... Maybe even something to do with Mad Eye, but it feels too powerful to be him, I'm scared... Alice, what's happening to me?"
"I don't know, but we'll figure it out, we're all here for you" she adds, reassuringly.
Draco, who until this point had been rather quiet spoke up "I think that a lot of weird things have been happening lately... Father thinks something is going to happen this year... his umm... he reckons it may be something to do with You Know Who" he says carefully "Do you have..."
"No" I cut him off "I was only three when they left, Draco"
"If its linked to that, then why isn't it affecting me?" Alice interjected.
"Erm, would you mind not talking in riddles?" Hailee asks, uncertainly.
"Sorry, we're just used to talking this way when others are around. So basically, Draco thinks that the Death Eaters may be gaining power, perhaps even You Know Who himself may rise again, the incident at the Quidditch World Cup was plastered all over the news, it has to have some significance. He suggests they may know what Mad-Eye knows and are trying to get to me, but Alice thinks this idea is stupid as she would obviously know if he were to rise again" I finish sarcastically.
"Go to Dumbledore" Arielle suggests.
An impulse makes me obey and I sprint out of the room of requirement leaving the others behind. I run through the corridors, a sense of urgency pushing me on. I must get to Dumbledore. I weave through twists and turns, careful to avoid the prowling Mrs Norris and the chaotic mess caused by Peeves until I reach the corridor that leads to Dumbledore's office. I curse myself, knowing I will need a password to enter, but today is my lucky day, I hear Snape approach the gold griffin and whisper "Chocolate Frogs", the griffin moves and an elaborate staircase stands in its place. Pausing until Snape is out of sight, I check that all is clear. My heart beats a thousand times faster than normal. I rush to the griffin and mutter the password, it permits me entrance and I climb the stairs. At the top of the staircase is an ornate wooden door with a simple knocker.
I pause a second. A second too long.
I try to reach out but my body will no longer obey me, I try to scream but no sound comes out, my breathing comes in shallow gasps, I feel as if hands have fixed themselves around my throat and slowly begin to cut off my air supply, panicking I reach for my wand, my trembling hand lets it fall to the floor, my legs give out and I fall, my head spinning, falling, spinning, falling...
