finally where we belong.

when dana and carol salazar-roberts get home, they don't find an empty house. instead they see two teenagers, sleeping in each other's embrace.

"dana, look" carol says, observing the two of them. "he's got a black eye, jesus. the poor kid". dana said, as she slowly woke the sleeping teens. "what time is it mom?" nini asked. "about 3:00, what are you doing home so early?" "uh, we had last two periods off, so why stay at school when we can watch movies!" nini said awkwardly, not gaining the belief from her moms. "okay, if you say so!". carol walks in, phone placed up to her ear. "can i put you on speaker?" she talks into the phone, before turning to the others. "it's cps". she sits down on the couch next to nini and ricky, soon followed by dana. "i was just ringing to ask you if there's been any changes recently with the family, ricky?" kathy asks through the phone. ricky and nini, well, they hadn't exactly disclosed their relationship to anyone. this was going to be awkward. "okay, i'll still be able to stay right?" "yes, most likely" "okay well me and nini are dating, does that change anything?" a smile appears on both carol and dana's faces. "no, that's completely fine. we will just put on your file that your currently staying with your girlfriends family. i'll be round in a few days with the paperwork. it's not an adoption, just placing dana and carol as your legal guardians until you turn 18" "okay, thanks kathy" nini replies. "no worries, we'll be in touch.. bye" kathy says before ending the call. both ricky and nini look up at dana and carol, concerned looks on their faces. "oh stop acting like scared mice, it was bound to happen. better sooner than later" carol says. she pulls the two of them into a hug. "welcome to the family ricky..we love you so much"

the night continues, a usual night for the salazar-roberts. but for ricky, well he's never had a night like this. they sit around the table, playing games, eating mcdonald's. laughing. talking. "how about we watch a movie?" dana asks. both teens nod, eager to relax. nini folds into ricky as he wraps his arms around her waist. in the past few days, nini had become accustomed to rickys affectionate behavior. although nini had dated many boys during her teen years, none of them were ever like this with her. ricky was soft, every movement filled with love.

they watch the film, together as a family. ricky studies nini's face through the darkness, a smile appearing whenever she laughs. when the movie finishes, ricky offers to pack up all the blankets and pillows, strewn around the living room. "ricky, since you're going to be living here, permanently, we wanted to ask if you wanted to make the guest room, well, your bedroom" carol asks. ricky obviously loved sharing a bed with nini, but also thought that it might make him feel more comfortable. "i'd like that, yeah. i've never really had a proper bedroom so" "we'll go shopping tomorrow. nini loves room makeovers so prepare for madness" dana laughs "i can hear you !" nini yells from the kitchen. laughter swarms through the house. "i should probably go finish some homework" ricky says, before walking upstairs. he enters nini's room, and sits on her bed. books in hand. nini's room had quickly become a safe haven for ricky. it was always calm and quiet. a good place for ricky to think. he had done a lot of that lately. to think, in just less than a week, ricky had gained a whole new family. the salazar-roberts saved him.

nini watches ricky from her door, studying the way his brown curls fall on his face when he reads. she smiles. walking up to the bed, she falls onto ricky, holding her arms around his neck. she kisses his cheek. "hey nini" he says, intertwining their hands. nini lies down beside ricky, observing as he quickly finishes writing and puts his book on the desk next to her bed. he lies down next to her, nini's head on his chest. "ricky?" "yes" "i think i'm in love with you". ricky smiles, pulling her into him. "me too".

ricky and nini fall asleep, wrapped in each other's embrace. drifting off into their dreams, not worrying about anyone else but living in the moment.
