Josefine Ann Jacobson loved the Outer Banks, the long, narrow chain of islands in the Atlantic Ocean before the coast of North Carolina was her home. This is where she wanted to be and stay until she was old and wrinkly and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were racing on the dock to the water in front of her house.
She wanted to grow up with her friends, the Pogues. With them, she wanted to make idiotic decisions, drink for the first time, smoke, and do even more crazy things.
But her little dreams were swept away overnight by the masses of water that so senselessly tore her parents to their deaths.
At the age of 12, Jo lost her family, not only her parents but also John B, Kiara, Pope, and her partner in crime JJ. The foster care system reunited Jo with her aunt Diana, who against her will takes her to California.
6 years later Jo finally returns in search of her past and her possible future, but what she finds will throw her off track again and still lead her on the right path.
