“Lauren, talk to me!” Whilst her consciousness faded, she heard Victor’s voice calling out to her.
It was gentle, mixed with concern and worry. The board members murmured within themselves while Damien sat quietly watching as Victor carried Lauren in his arms and hurried out of the board room. The moment Victor had left the conference room; Damien stood up to address them.
“Gentlemen, you’ll have to forgive my secretary. I think she really ate something bad today.”
“No way!” Helen uttered under her breath in disbelief at the indifferent expression that played on Damien’s face as he acted like nothing had happened. She had no idea he hated her to this extent that he didn’t care if she wasn’t feeling well.
“Anyway, let’s continue. Helen…” His voice pulled her out of her thought.
“Yes, sir.” She stood up walking to the podium taking control of the presentation while Damien sat back on his seat.
Several moments later…
Damien arrived at the hospital where Lauren was on admission. When he walked inside the building; Nurses were captivated by the sight of the handsome man who made his way to the receptionist desk. Even the nurse at the reception desk couldn’t keep her cool as she was blushing the entire time.
“Hello sir. How may I help you?”
“I’m here to see a patient. Miss. Lauren Ikojie…”
“Hold on…” The nurse tapped away on the keyboard and got her information.
“She’s in the female ward. It’s on the third floor, first door to your right.”
“Thank you very much.” He said with a smile and turned walking away.
On reaching the third floor, as he got off the elevator, Damien strode along the hallway, where he saw Victor seated with his arms crossed against his chest. He looked as if he was waiting for something.
‘Could it be that he hasn’t heard anything from the doctor yet?’ He thought. ‘Well then I guess I’m just in time.’
Hearing footsteps approaching his seat, Victor raised his head to see Damien walking towards her room and stood up blocking his path with a twisted look.
“What are you doing here?” Victor said with an intimidating air surrounding him.
“You’re in my way.” Damien spoke nonchalantly.
“You’ve got some balls showing up here?”
“What is it now?” Damien asked his expression uncaring as always.
“Are you having fun? Do you enjoy seeing her suffer like this?” Victor questioned.
“What I do to her is none of your business.”
Victor scoffed in disgust. “You put her in this situation, yet you say what you do to her isn’t my business. Are you that heartless?” He criticized.
“If you’re done talking, I’d like to go in now.” Damien tried to leave but Victor grabbed him by the coat.
The look in Victor’s eyes as he glared at him was full of hatred and with an angry tone, he hissed.
“You better pray nothing happens to her else, you’ll have me to contend with.” He released him as the doctor came out of her room.
Damien took a moment to fix his suit and then turned to the doctor.
“Excuse me; are you Miss. Ikojie’s, guardians?” The doctor inquired as he approached them.
“Yes, I am.” Victor answered.
