Song : Adele - When we were young
•
Lundy"Hey! That's cheating!" I yell and run after him.
I carry my legs as fast as possible. I feel the rain sliding down my face, chin and body. This feels so good. I love rain but not storms. I hate storms. My dad died in a plane crash during a storm and it has been my greatest fear ever since then. Not planes. Storms.
My house gradually comes to sight and I see Zayn panting for air, one hand on the door and the other on his hip. "You win, cheater." I stand in front of him and fold my arms.
"That wasn't cheating. That was being a step before your opponent." He points his index finger towards me and bends his body backwards with both hands on hips.
"Get back inside and try to sleep." Zayn instructs me and ruffles my hair.
"Don't do that. Your hands are wet." I beat his hand away from my head.
"So is your hair." He bites his lower lip and laughs again. I must look funny to him because of the messy wet hair and a frustrated face.
He laughs like the actors from the movie scenes where their lovers said something stupid; heavy and heartily. It sounds like a motivational song to me; so lively and contagious. It makes me laugh although I don't feel happy.
He looks so charming under the street lights. I wish I could photograph him now. This could be the last time we have a proper talk. We can never know what the future holds.
"Can I photograph you?" It slip out.
"Sure. Why not?" He agrees and fixes his hair and clothes. I take out my phone and snap a quick picture of him, my hands shaking.
I click the gallery icon and check the photo. His head blocks the street light as he comes closer and look at himself, smiling proudly.
"I'm still charming." He comments and I stifle a laugh. "It's good to see you again." He says out of the blue. "I think you should go. Ask Amy to make you a hot chocolate." He advices. My smile fades.
"She's not here anymore." I look down at our shoes and fight back the tears.
"Where did she go?" He asks back, cluelessely.
"She died, Zayn." I feel his hands holding my shoulders and hear him saying, "I'm so sorry."
"Do you need a hug?" He asks softly. Of course, I do! I just shake my head and wipe the fallen tears.
He pulls me into his chest and wraps his long arms around my back. His body is still wet with rain but I don't mind. I needed this. His hand rubs my back in circles as he plants kisses on my head. We stay like this for a good five minutes. I part from him as he wipes the tears with the back of his hands.
" Thank you." His hands remains on my shoulders as I give him a small smile.
"No problem. I miss her too. She makes the best hot chocolate." He says and licks his lips, imagining the hot chocolate in his mouth. Zayn loves Amy too.
The three of us hanged out a lot. If it was a sunny day, I would wheel her to the park and Zayn would walk beside me, crackling jokes and making us laugh. If it was raining, we would sit in the kitchen, talk about our lives or the world with a hot chocolate cup in our hands. Amy sits in her wheelchair while I sit on the floor with my arms and chin on her lap and Zayn; on a stool.
Zayn's face brightens as he snaps his fingers together, waking me up from overthinking. "I've got an idea." He says excitedly.
I stay still and urge him to continue. "How about you text me when you have insomnia? I'll come to you and give you hot chocolate!" He continues, his eyes twinkling. He sounds like a five-years-old all of a sudden.
