Eleanor's POV

"Can you do math?" Luke questioned, no emotion in his voice as I sat on the stool behind the counter. I turned to look at him to see if he was being serious but the straight face told me he was.

"Like money math?" He nodded. "Uh, yeah." He rolled his eyes and showed me quickly how to use the cash register. It wasn't hard stuff, but apparently if he had to ask, other people have had trouble.

"We have two rules here." He stated as I stood behind the counter alone and he began to organize the albums. "Don't talk to me and don't scare away the customers."

I couldn't tell if he was being serious or not but I didn't want to chance it, so I sat behind the counter and stayed quiet. A few customers came every now and then but it wasn't too busy. Every once in a while I would wonder around the store and look at the different albums. While I was reading the song list on one of them, I saw a familiar face outside the window dressed in a pant suit, a designer purse on her arm and dark sunglasses covering her eyes.

"Oh shit." I said to myself and Luke turned to look at me. "That's my mom coming in here." I squeezed my eyes tight together and heard the bell ring as the door opened. I opened my eyes to find her making her way inside, looking around everywhere as she placed her sunglasses on top of her head. She had a disgusted type of look on her face, like if she touched anything she'd get some fatal disease.

"Eleanor, darling. What are you doing in here?" She asked skeptically, and continued looking around the small shop.

"I work here, mother." I saw Luke looking at me and then back at my mom, very confused. "Oh, this is my good friend, Luke. Luke, this is my mom." I motioned them towards each other, and he looked at my confused but then gave my mother a smirk. He pushed his sleeves up so she could see his tattoos and I smiled to myself.

My mother looked as though she might pass out and I decided that getting a job here was the best decision I have ever made.

"Would you like a seat?" Luke got up from his seat on the wooden, dirty box and offered her to sit down. We both knew my mother would never sit down on that dirty thing, let alone stand in here for another minute.

"Uh, no, I'm-I'm alright. Eleanor, I'm leaving. We'll talk when I get home." She nodded towards me, pushed her sunglasses back onto her face, and tried to open to the door with the least amount of her hand possible, practically running out of the store.

I rolled my eyes before looking at Luke who had his headphones back on. I tried to get his attention but he didn't budge, so I pulled one of them out of his ear. He looked over and me, angry and pissed off.

"Hey." I said calmly with a sheepish smile.

"Rule number one: don't talk to me." He said annoyed and I moved my chair so it was in front of him.

"I know, I just wanted to say thank you for helping me get my mother out of here." I didn't look up from the album he was examining.

"She seems like a bitch." He stated simply.

"She is sometimes, she just has a plan for me and she's very insistant on that plan." He nodded.

"You don't have the same plan?" He questioned and finally looked at me in the eyes. Despite his dark outward appearance, his blue eyes looked soft and gentle.

"Not at all. She wants me to become a doctor. I just want to travel the world and be happy." He nodded and grabbed his one earphone and before placing it back in he told me,

"Fuck her plan. Go to every country."

I smiled to myself as he drummed the beat of the song he was listening to with a pencil on the shelf.
