"pass me the box"
he grabbed it back from the bookcase handing it to her
"if i show you what's inside here you have to promise me two things"
"okay"
"one, you won't get mad and two you won't change how you act with me, please toru i'm begging you"
"i promise"
"okay.."
"what's in the box"
she didn't respond, instead just slowly opened the box, and pushed it towards toru
what he saw made his heart drop to the pit of his stomach
"what is this.."
"these are all my medical documents, and medicine.."
"what do you.."
"coronary heart disease..toru i'm sorry i didn't tell you i just didn't know what you would say.."
toru had fallen completely silent, his heart tightened as his eyes skimmed over all the documents, one, made him not want to read anymore.
"what's an attack.."
"a few years ago i had a heart attack..but they said i'm okay and it won't happen again! okay?"
he nodded slowly, closing the box and placing it back onto the top of the bookshelf.
"i'll be back give me a second!"
akeno hurried off and toru sat on the ground quietly, he didn't even know where to begin to think. he, without a doubt, had a shock to the heart.
akeno walked back in carrying a futon, placing it next to her bed, preparing it.
"you're sleeping in here tonight"
she said, a little out of breath.
toru got up, and started to prepare it instead
"i'll do it"
she stared at him, slowly nodded and sat down on her bed.
"thanks"
the room fell quiet, as toru finished preparing the futon, he sat down, looking at akeno
"what is it?"
he shook his head "nothing" he mumbled
"ehhh? i'm going to sleep then"
he hummed "okay"
"goodnight"
"mmh, goodnight"
he got up to turn the light off and laid down, however could not sleep, he was thinking, how serious this was. even though toru and akeno had spent very little time together, it felt, to each other, that they've known each other forever. and so naturally, toru couldn't help but worry, he had never had anyone treat him so kindly. and for it to be her, he wanted to stay with her the most, he never wanted anything more. he tried to put his heart at rest, closed his eyes, trying to sleep.
he ended up not being able to sleep and got up early. he was pouring the syrup over the pancakes as footsteps could be heard coming down stairs.
"that's smells good~" akeno sighed out walking down the final step
"i made pancakes"
"my favouritee! i love pancakes!"
he nodded sliding the plate towards akeno
"thank you!"
"how'd you sleep"
"great! i haven't slept that long in like forever!"
"can't sleep?"
"i usually have nightmares, i didn't have one last night though"
"oh"
"maybe it was because you was with me"
she giggled smiling softly
"perhaps"
"thank you.."
toru stopped eating and looked at akeno questionably
"for what"
"for not overreacting to my condition"
he nodded "it can't be helped" he relied, even though that wasn't what he wanted to say.
deep down he really was worried, he was scared.
she smiled "exactly"
"here" toru said passing a cup full of green tea
"thank you" she said sipping it softly, he nodded
"ah, i don't know what to do today"
"we don't have to do anything"
"ehh..i guess so"
"want ice cream"
"i just ate!" akeno whined
toru teased "i'll just get some for myself then"
"i'll have some!! just some!!"
she said running upstairs
"i'll be right back!!"
toru sighed, laughing to himself. he walked towards the door, putting his shoes on.
akeno stumbled behind, rushing to get her shoes on
"i'm ready i'm ready okay!!"
"okay"
"it's nice out today!" akeno sang skipping down the street
"it is"
"even the flowers are dancing"
"dancing?"
"yes! look at how happy they look"
"mmh, they look bright"
"i'll wait here go get the ice cream"
"okay"
toru walked into the store as akeno stayed outside, intrigued by the flowers
"here's your receipt sir"
"thank you"
he walked out the store holding one ice cream in each hand
"here" he said handing her one
"thanks~, let's go to the playground!"
he nodded "okay"
they sat together on the swings quietly
"that ice cream was great!"
"yeah it was nice" he said giving a soft smile
"you're smiling again! did you like it that much?"
she questioned tilting her head in a curious manner
"yeah"
"good! i used to love this park as a kid, my parents always brought me here, but that was before they got super busy with work"
"we're you close with your parents"
"i was, but now i don't see them a lot"
"oh, i'm sorry"
"it's okay! i'm okay with it"
"okay" he sighed, looking towards the sky
"the sunset is pretty isn't it?"
toru nodded "its nice, the colours are pretty"
"it's almost night already, the breeze is nice too.." she said rocking her legs back and forth
"i like the sky and night"
"oh?" she said looking at toru
"the stars look like fireflies, bright, i think the sky looks the prettiest at night"
"i've never really seen the stars like that before"
toru nodded "i love the stars"
"it's getting late now, should we head back?"
toru shook his head "can we stay a little longer"
she looked at him and laughed a little
"if you want to then it's fine"
"thank you"
"it's nothing, you do a lot for me, it's the least i can do for you" she said giggling a little
"akeno"
"yess?"
"can we go somewhere since it's starting to get dark"
"yeah sure!"
"okay"
"we have to go home first though"
"eh? why?"
"because it's a surprise"
"mmmmm okay!"
they walked home together talking about the different kinds of flowers and trees they saw as they walked past them. soon they reached home.
"okay put this on as a blindfold"
"ehhh? okay.."
"alright"
"alright so..?"
"let's go."
