CHAPTER II

( wolf moon [part two] )

THE NEXT MORNING, a sharp rapping on her bedroom door had Ruby waking up with a tired groan.

"Ruby, get up! You don't want to be late on your first day back!" The voice of her father echoed through the white painted oak.

"I mean, I personally wouldn't mind being late if it means I get more sleep." She grumbled to herself, pushing herself up into a sitting position as she let out a large yawn, struggling to keep her blue eyes from falling shut.

"Ruby!" Deaton called again.

"Yeah, I'm up!" She groggily responded, rubbing her hands over her face and blinking repeatedly, still trying to keep her heavy eyes open.

As she kicked her teal blue covers off her legs and shuffled so she was sat on the edge of the bed, she let out a drowsy groan, her head feeling thick. She was certainly feeling the effect of going dead body hunting and almost being made into a midnight snack by some wild animal until all hours last night.

After sitting there with a dazed expression on her face for a good few minutes, Ruby stretched her short arms above her head and finally stood to her feet.

She stumbled out of her bedroom and towards the bathroom that was situated across the hall, where she twisted the nozzle in the shower until water began to trickle into the bathtub. She made sure the bathroom door was locked before shedding her thin cotton pyjamas and after ensuring that the water was at the right temperature, she stepped under the powerful jets and let out a satisfied sigh as the hot stream hit her tense shoulders and ran down her back.

Tipping her head back, Ruby wet her hair before grabbing her shampoo bottle and squeezing a dollop into her outstretched palm, proceeding to lather it into her scalp. She washed out the grime and dirt that had gotten itself entangled in her long hair after last night's escapade, watching as the leaves and soil fell onto the marble shower floor and down the drain. She was beginning to wish she'd had a quick shower last night when she got home, because by the time she had washed all of the crud out of her hair and moved on to scrub her petite body, she was wondering whether she would be dried and ready for school in time for Stiles to pick her up.

Fifteen minutes later, Ruby was shutting off the water and climbing out of the tub, wrapping a fluffy white towel around herself while her hair cascaded down her back in damp, shiny black tresses. After cleaning her teeth and swilling out her gums with mouthwash, she padded back across the hall and into her bedroom. She blow dried her hair until it was soft and silky, before dropping her towel and wiggling into a pair of light wash skinny jeans, pairing in with a plum coloured sweater.

As she was tying the laces on her white Converse, the sputtery engine of Stiles' Jeep was heard outside her bedroom window. Grabbing the lacrosse stick that was stood up against her wall, she shoved it into her pale pink rucksack, zipping it up almost all the way and leaving a small gap for her lacrosse stick to poke out. Once she was sure she had everything, she exited her bedroom and jogged down the dark oak stairs.

"I'm headed off now, Dad." She announced as she walked through the kitchen where her father was enjoying a coffee before work.

"Make sure you come straight home after school. You're grounded." He told her, sending her a stern look.
