As she emerged from the portal, a swarm of omegas and the maintenance crew bustled about, each focused on their tasks. A few stragglers lazed about, perhaps on their break.
Malcom, a lanky intern, rushed to keep her informed on her schedule and the latest events. Her warriors began streaming in, each surrounded by omegas leading them to rest.
She had no such luck, she and sureen would have to sit in on a several day meeting with multiple Alphas, including the formidable Alpha Sorren. No amount of cajoling would get her out of this.
She made her way to the pack Hall, nodding to any pack members who greeted her.
She prepared herself for the battle that was to ensue, not one that was fought with blood and sword. No. This was much worse. It would be a battle of paperwork and laws, she shuddered internally.
The sentinels saluted her, before pushing the mahogany doors open. She silenced the announcer with a lift of her finger, she wanted to stealthily sneak in without anyone noticing.
" Presenting Gamergate Laira! "
She'd never wanted to throttle someone as much as in this moment. Silence fell, as every alpha in the vicinity swung their eyes to meet hers.
She was going to need to chat with Jonathan about the training given to the announcers. She cursed internally, thankful for the presence of her mask.
She strolled to her seat as nonchalantly as she could. She sat down, before clearing her throat. "Where are we now?"
"The warrior exchange programme? " She pulled out all the information related from her tablet. Soon, the discussion dissolved from casual discourse, to a masculinity contest that she believed could be resolved if they all measured their dicks.
Alpha Remington was a fossil who seemed frozen to the antiquated beliefs of whatever period of time he crawled up from. Every time she spoke, he would flinch or oppose with thinly veiled insults.
"Why would I have female warriors? They don't need to know how to fight! How will they find mates when they become rough and unladylike! "
She was at a loss, they were at a stalemate and had gone round and round for hours. She could sense that the meeting would drag on for at least a week. Twice now, she had to actively prevent herself from sinking her first into his yellowed teeth.
He's an inbred senior citizen, Laira! Keep your shit together!
Especially since Remington wasn't an isolated case, all these decrepit crones were clutching onto their power, refusing to retire or relinquish any control .
She couldn't help but wonder when he would die, she had suspicions that even his son would feel relieved if he were to... Disappear.
"Let's disperse, we can continue tomorrow, "She could feel that they would never progress given the state their minds were in. Perhaps a good night's sleep would change the eternal temper tantrum that was Remington the fourth.
As she stood up, an omega rushed to her. "Alpha Sorren has arrived,"Her heart sank at the prospect of staying up longer, just to pander to some privileged egomaniac.
She turned back for a second to thank the brave soul, not least for having aided in hosting the herd of Alphas that had settled in.
By this time, most of the Alphas had been led to their respective guest houses, even her right-hand Sureen had left with her mate. She headed towards the reception area with a heavy heart.
She was hit with an incredulous feeling, as if she were tethered to a person rather than the earth. She felt an urge to run around and scream her happiness to the world.
Now the council would finally get off her back.
She knew that it had to be her mate, who could it be? She knew that whoever it was, was definitely in Alpha Sorren's pack. Given that she had never set foot on Scolarian land or met their Alpha.
She was painfully aware of the fact that he might not relinquish her mate. Especially since her mate had to be a high ranking member of his pack.
Alpha Sorren was known to be completely apathetic towards the mate bond. He had once refused to transfer a pack member who was mated to an Alpha.
It took her brother threatening a trade war, for Sorren to relinquish his mate, Anya. Complete psychopath, that guy.
Suddenly she felt as though she had been slapped by her wolf, who seemed entirely upset with her deviating from thoughts about her mate to that random Sorren guy. It almost caused a war, luckily they had to sign a treaty, after pack members went on strikes on both sides.
She sported a fierce headache, after all the mental slaps she had been given by her wolf. She would have to reign her in when she met Alpha Sorren, couldn't have her hurting an Alpha.
She decided to greet Alpha Sorren before her mate. So that he would be a little more lenient in transferring whoever her mate was.
"Alpha Sorr-" As soon as her eyes met his, the words were caught in her throat.
The moment their eyes met, she knew. She was fucked.
