I gathered my composure as best as I could, and steeled my nerves. I had to maintain order after all. Perhaps after the rest of his pack had retired for the night, I would seek his company. For now, I would act as a gracious host and capable leader. Unless he gave in to the pressures of our bond, in which case, I could merely acknowledge him. He would understand, given the precarious nature of his own position, that we mustn't be too... Impatient with our bond.

Right?

I turned towards the Alpha , extending a welcoming hand to him. At least I wouldn't have to persuade him to transfer my mate to my pack. My eyes met his, his heated gaze leaving me infinitely grateful for the comfort of my mask.

"Would you like to be shown around our pack or led immediately to your accommodations? " I inquired. The Alpha, whose eyes had remained transfixed on me spoke up for once,"I would like to discuss the new trading routes with you alone as my companions wish to rest."

His magnetic voice had a comforting feeling that enveloped me. I shook myself from my stupor, as I called a few op-silons to lead them to their guest house. I linked max to prepare my office and told him to go home after he finished.

As the guest filed out, and we were left together, our breaths rising and falling as one. What would he do now? Would he lose his composure and... Or would he want to discuss pack business before addressing our bond?

He did seem like the kind of person who would do that. I glanced at the ethereal whisp standing over his shoulder. The similarity in looks, indicated that they were related. Whilst the withered state of her funeral shroud, slung carelessly over her shoulder told me her death had not been recent.

I smiled at her. She would see it; ghosts weren't bound by the rules of our mortal plane after all.

"Would you be willing to leave the room for a while?"

He appeared shocked, his expressions and the words that tumbled from his mouth showed as much. "I beg your pardon?"

At that moment, it occurred to me that he probably thought I was either talking to him, or speaking to the air. Neither of which, would make a great first impression for my mate to have of me.

What could I possibly do to amend the situation?

"So anyway, what did you want to talk about? "

Nailed it.

He furrowed his brows, shaking his head in bewilderment, before inhaling deeply.

" Why did you summon me here? I thought you wanted to wait for the pack to settle down, before having us participate in the next meet? "

If he could see my expression from within the mask, he would know that I had lost every shred of composure.

Why was he so nonchalant about our bond? I knew that his nomadic life had probably led to some cultural differences, but I hadn't known how truly disparaging his knowledge of mates was.

Unless... The females were meant to approach the topic of mating in the campus. In which case, he probably thought I was being super disrespectful.

Or, I was over thinking everything, and should simply tell him what I was feeling and stop being such a wet rag.

I looked into his eyes, feeling as though he was staring straight through my mask and penetrating the deepest bowels of me.

nope.
