By the time Momo and Shouto arrived at the Todoroki residence, it was half-past ten p.m. The lights inside the house were lit up and Momo tensed up at the thought of Endeavor striding around radiating intimidation. Beside her, Shouto's gaze was set on the ground and his hands were shoved in his pockets.
"If my father is in there, just ignore him," he warned Momo as they reached the door. She simply nodded in response and waited as Shouto pushed open the door and stepped inside.
Momo's heart started to race as she followed him into his house. The air was warm and inviting, a drastic difference from her own home. She took in a deep breath and closed her eyes for a brief moment, relishing the feeling of safety that the house provided. It was ironic considering one of the rudest Pro Heroes was somewhere inside.
After removing their shoes at the door, Shouto opened his mouth to say something before his sister appeared practically out of nowhere. She was wearing a dark grey sweater and black sweatpants with her hair tied back in a small ponytail.
"Hey, Shouto," she greeted her brother casually before turning towards Momo. A polite grin was plastered onto her face, "Hi there! Yaoyorozu, right?" After Momo nodded, Fuyumi continued excitedly. "I remember the last time you were here! You're actually gonna stay this time, right? Because I know last time that-"
"Fuyumi, shut up," Shouto growled. He glared daggers at his sister and she chuckled sheepishly.
"Are you staying the night?" Fuyumi leaned against the doorframe and tilted her head to the side at Momo.
"That's the plan," Momo replied, tightening her grip on her bag. "I hope that's not a problem."
"Oh, not at all!" Fuyumi grinned. "Let me know if you need anything, okay?" Her voice was so sweet and gentle that Momo felt her heart twist in her chest. She hadn't felt this welcome by anybody in years.
"Where is he?" Shouto asked his sister suddenly, and Momo knew he was talking about his father.
Fuyumi shrugged. "In his room. He's pretty quiet tonight."
"Wow, I've never heard that before." Shouto cleared his throat and turned back to Momo, his expression softening instantly. "Come on, you can put your stuff in the guest bedroom."
As the two of them started walking past Fuyumi, her hand shot out and rested on Momo's shoulder. "Shou, I love you, but you're a horrible host." she took Momo's bag from her hand and stuffed it into her brother's arms. "You go put that away while I make Momo some tea,"
The use of her first name made Momo smile; she knew Shouto was still uncomfortable using it, but his sister was one of the nicest people she had ever met and she was glad at how comfortable she was with her.
"Okay," Shouto mumbled before heading down the hall by himself. Fuyumi turned back to Momo and led her to the kitchen. It was nice and clean, which Momo couldn't say the same about her own back at her house.
As Fuyumi started to prepare the tea, Momo sat down at the counter. "You know," Fuyumi started, her voice quiet. "You probably know Shouto better than I do." Momo watched as she let out a sigh. "We obviously didn't spend a lot of time together as kids, and he's already a really distant person. I feel like I'm still learning new things about him, and I can't help but feel guilty."
Momo shook her head. "That's not your fault," she responded.
Fuyumi silently poured a cup of tea into a mug and set it down in front of her guest. She glanced around for a moment to make sure they were completely alone. "I feel like I could've done more in the past. He was so young, and after..." she gestured to her face as if to refer to Shouto's scar. "I just saw less and less of him."
