The First Day

I arrived at William Penn Academy sick with nerves. Yet another new school for me. The fact the Goldberg's had taken me under their wing I am still astounded by. Adam, Barry and Erica went to that school and if they could survive I guess I could too. At least Barry's ex-fiancé, Lainey Lewis was my music teacher. Beverly drove me to school on my first day, smothering me in all her love and refusing to leave me alone.

I went into school and she took me to the principal's office to get my timetable. Principal Glascott handed it to me and smiled "I never thought I'd have a Goldberg back." Beverly beamed, "I know, isn't she wonderful!!!!" I smiled a little, "thanks, Principal Glascott." "No, bother, Amy? Right? Amy Mellor?" I nodded, "Yeah." He smiled, "well, welcome to the school Amy, enjoy your first day. CB here will take you around." I nodded, "thank you, Principal Glascott." A man came in with a brightly coloured tie and an even brighter personality who quickly introduced himself as CB.

I followed him out of the principal's office when Beverly called out, "I love you shmoopie!" CB said to me as we walked down the hall, "she's a lot." To which I responded, "tell me about it." CB showed me around the school, introducing me to the infamous Lainey Lewis along the way. "Hi Amy, Beverly said you were starting here," she said as CB introduced me to her. I replied, still feeling nervous, "Nice to meet you, Miss Lewis." Her and CB are so cute together, I ship it

CB continued his tour before finishing it at Coach Mellor's office where I was introduced to the 6ft tall gym coach who didn't seem phased by my arrival outside his office. "Ah not Goldberg, I've been expecting you." "You have?" I asked as he slurped down some beet juice. "Why yes, I've heard you are a fine athlete. And lucky for you, you have Gym with me this afternoon to prove yourself." I smiled, I love sports. "Great, I'll see you this afternoon I guess." I left Coach's office and followed CB down the hall. "Well that's your tour, follow me and I'll take you to English. You have me for English." I was so relieved, "Thank God!" I admitted laughing a little. I wandered into class and took a seat at the only free desk as CB began his lesson. It certainly wasn't boring. That's for sure. I don't think I have been so amused whilst talking about communism.

Next, I had Music with Miss Lewis. I was quite excited to finally be doing music as a subject and even more so because I love playing guitar like Miss Lewis. I really wanted to impress her. I went into class and found myself sitting right at the front. "Hey Ames, how are you?" She asked me as I sat at the front as the rest of my class came in. "I'm okay thank you, Miss Lewis." "Superb, I heard you play guitar," she smiled and sat down next to me. "Um yeah, I do." She smiled, "you'll be just fine. Just relax." I smiled as she started the lesson.

Music passed by and I had so much fun playing guitar with Miss Lewis. She made me feel part of the class, even though I was new. Spanish with Mr Dugan and Geometry with Ms Flemming and it was finally lunch. I sat eating my lunch with a few people I had met in Miss Lewis' class when she came and sat at our table. "Hey guys, so who's up for doing the fall school concert." We all nodded slowly in agreement and Miss Lewis beamed, "fab, thanks, guys." I finally spoke out, "no problem, Miss Lewis." I sat thinking for a few minutes about everything until I was interrupted by Coach Mellor, "Not Goldberg, remember you have gym after lunch, see you there." I nodded, saying nothing. He kind of scared me.

Lunch ended and I went to gym class with Coach Mellor, "yet another from the Goldberg house" he said as I walked in, "Hi Coach," I stuttered, still nervous as anything, despite the day almost being over. However Gym made me nervous, being a bit geeky didn't exactly help, despite being quite good at most sports. I prefer just training on my own with an MP3 player and a pair of trainers. I was dreading Gym class and from what I have been told about him from Adam, I was terrified.

Coach Mellor could clearly tell I was nervous and pulled me to the side, "listen, don't worry, you'll be fine. I've heard you are a good kid. You should try out for a team, don't worry, I'll overlook the fact you're a girl." I smiled a little, "Thanks, Coach." He put his hand on my shoulder, "no bother, not Goldberg. You run along - I'll be in in a moment." I giggled and went into the class.
