After a 30 minute drive they had finally arrived, a busy London train station stood before them.
"Bye mummy,Bye daddy I'll send you lots of letters." said Darrel and hugged both of her parents.
"Bye Mr and Mrs rivers!" said Sally with her usual bright smile. Swiftly they unloaded their trunks onto a trolley and went into the station. It was full of people going everywhere.
"What platform is the train for St Andrews on Sally?"asked Darrel
" Platform 9 I think. "she replied checking the ticket.
On platform nine it was much less busy, girls wearing plain white tops and orange skirts could be seen and a few boys  at the other end of the platform with grey trousers and white tops. Not many people looked like they were coming on the train as most of the carriages were empty.
Suddenly Sally and Darrel felt small and insignificant. They were surrounded by older girls all chatting and looking down at them as if they were 11 years old.
"Look there are Alicia and Betty! " exclaimed Sally.
"Sally, Darrel come on we found a free compartment." shouted Alicia.
They walked into the compartment and noticed how quiet the train was. "So we're going to go to St Andrews. I wish we weren't new and the youngest." moaned Alicia
"Stop complaining. " replied Betty and gave her a playful punch,"but all the same I will miss dear Malory and towers."
