Elizabeth's POV
"Elizabeth! Come on sweety, we have to go before the roads get bad!" Mom called from downstairs.
"Coming!" I said as I rushed downstairs before we were late for my father's Christmas Party.
"You look beautiful, sweetheart!" Dad smiled. "Let's go before we're late."
"Dad, you're the owner of the bank, everyone else is early." I chuckled as we headed to the car.
My Dad's bank was passed down through the family since Great-Great-Great Grandpa Richard inherited it from the Royce family back in 1933. Ever since then our family had been extremely wealthy, but Dad says it's more of a curse than a blessing. Ever since we inherited the bank, our family thought it brought horrible death to the family. For example, Great-Great-Great Grandpa Richard and Grandma Elizabeth died at 40 and 38 from the Spanish Influenza. Great-Great Grandpa Greyson died at 80 from cancer and a year later his wife died at 79 from a "broken heart".
Great Grandpa Joshua and his wife were murdered both at 77 from an attempted robery. And lastly Grandpa Richard Hale II died of a heart attack when I was 10, and when I was 15 Grandma Hale died of cancer as well. Yes, most of the deaths are the most horrible way to go, and it was heartbreaking loosing the grandparents I got to know, but it's a little far calling it a curse. Right?
"You alive back there kiddo?" Dad joked, snapping me out of my thoughts as we drove through town.
"Peter, watch out!" Mom screamed.
All I heard was a loud crash of metal bending, everything else was a blur. It felt like time was going really slow until I finally started to come to.
"Mom?" I groaned, then frowned as my head started to throb.
"Hello? Anyone in there?" A voice called out as everything went black.
Strong Memorial Hospital
1 Week LaterBeep! Beep! Beep!
It seemed like I was laying around forever. My body felt like it was in contant pain.
Beep! Beep! Beep!
God that's annoying!
Beep! Beep! Beep!
I started to stir awake. I slowly opened my eyes only to squint them shut from the bright light. It took a few minutes until my eyes finally adjusted.
"You're finally awake." A nurse smiled as she wrote on her board.
"Where am I?" I groaned, trying to sit up.
"You're at Strong. You should take it easy and lay back down." The nurse suggesed, making me sigh and nod in agreement.
"Why am I here?" I frowned. "Where are my parents?"
"You were in a fatal accident, that's all I can say for right now." The nurse said sympathetically. "I'll go let the doctor know that you are awake."
"Wait, what?" I frowned, but she just walked out.
I stressfully waited a few minutes, noticing the cast on my left leg before a doctor finally walked in.
"Elizabeth, it's good to see you finally awake, you gave us quite a scare there." The doctor stated.
"The nurse said I was in an accident, what happened?" I demanded. "Where's my parents?"
"I'm sorry." The doctor looked at me sadly which made my heart break. "You were lucky to make it out alive with a minor concusion and broken leg. A drunk driver t-boned the left side of the car, making it flip into a telephone pole. You're parents, they were gone by the time the ambulance got there. I'm so sorry."
