I put on a pair of socks, pulled my sneakers on, and grabbed the shoebox. I opened my bedroom door and hopped down the stairs. "Where do you think you're going, private?" My dad said as I entered the kitchen.
"The play?"
"What play? You're in a play? Did you borrow my car last Friday?"
"Disdainful denial." Okay
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"Then I guess I should blame the car elves." My dad put his hands on his hips.
"Do whatever you want." I made my way to the door and opened it.
"Did you go to that party?"
"Wait." The SQUIP said and I stopped.
"I'm worried about you! You come and go all hours, doing god knows what, wearing these new clothes." He took a deep breath. "What is going on with you?" Dad did look concerned.
"Tell him the truth." What? I can't tell him the truth. He'll think I'm crazy. "Do what I say."
"I took a pill-sized supercomputer called a Squip that's in my brain, and it talks to me, and it's made everything better!" My dad scoffed.
"If you're not gonna take me seriously-"
"Why should I?"
"Excuse me?" My dad asked appalled at me. I don't know what came over me but I yelled back at him.
"I'm supposed to believe you care? Look in the mirror! Ever since Mom left, you sit around like you're waiting for her to come back! If she did, you know what she'd find? A loser who's so afraid to have a life, he can't even put PANTS ON!" I was practically screaming at him now. The first time I brought up her after she left. The first time I mentioned her was to insult my father. That's his fault! He never once decided to ask how I felt after the divorce.
"I could ground you." He said sternly. Ha!
"I don't think you could." The sarcasm was evident in my voice. I paused waiting for my dad to respond but he didn't. "Good talk." Waltzing over to the counter, I grabbed the car keys. "Don't wait up," I said as I walked out the door. Sighing, I got into the car and slammed the door shut.
"You needed to do what you had to." Their voice said as I turned on the car and backed out of the driveway.
"SQUIP no offense but shut up," I said as I turned down Other Street. "I love my dad and I shouldn't have said those things."
"It is not your fault your father cannot come to the terms that you are a changed person now." They crossed their arms. "According to my calculations, you're going to arrive late to the play." I almost crashed the car at that.
"Late! No, I can't be late! Christine is going to be disappointed in me!" I ran a hand through my hair. It was getting longer and was now past my ears.
"Sarah. You have to give her up. She has made it abundantly clear she has no interest in you." I turned down the street to the school.
"Yeah." My voice was defeated. They weren't wrong. "She has no interest in me whatsoever." I pulled into the parking lot. "C'mon we gotta hurry I can hear Christine doing the intro speech." Grabbing the shoebox, I pulled open the backstage door and headed inside. Tonight was the night something big was gonna happen. I could feel it in my stomach. Although that could just be my anxiety. I took a deep breath and scanned the room for Christine. She just walked back stage and made eye contact with me.
Hey, binches. Sorry for the long break. I love you guys. Happy summer since school might be over for some people yet. Well, it is for me, so expect more chapters. I'm gonna be uploaded at least once every week on Thursday. Thanks for sticking with me and being here even though I wasn't that active. Good night loves!
