Midnight talk
---Sindrian ship, in the middle of the ocean---
It was already in the middle of the night, but Salome, who was unable to sleep, shifted from side to side in her bed. Her blanket that had wrapped around her legs awkwardly, prevented her from finding a comfortable position, making her even more twitchy. She was incredibly exhausted, but the events that had taking place weighed heavily on her mind. Every time she closed her eyes, the darkness around her turned into black malevolent Djinn's, just waiting to reach for her with their pointed claws. It didn't help that the unfamiliar creaks of the ship's wood kept frightening her because it made her feel like someone was moving in her little cabin.
With a sigh, the girl sat up and raised her blanket to her forehead to wipe away the sweat. Nothing had worked. She couldn't sleep, so she decided to get some fresh air in the hope that it would clear her mind.
Shivering, she wrapped her blanket around her body as she got up from the bed and let her bare feet slip into her shoes. As she went out, the young woman reached for the oil lamp so that she would not have to wander in darkness. It was even colder on the top deck, where the wind whistled around her ears, but the sound of the sea and the fresh air helped her to relax. Salome took a deep breath of the sea air as she dimmed the light and slowly strolled forward to the railing. She glanced over the ship, looking for other people, but only saw one person standing at the steering wheel, who seemed to be keeping an eye on their course. Since she didn't know this crew member, she decided not to bother him.
In silence she looked down into the water, which was blackened by the night and watched for a moment how it sloshed gently against the large Sindrian ship. Her gaze followed the soft glitter that the waning moon's light cast on the reflecting surface, then up into the sky, where countless stars were shining down on her. Never in her whole life had she seen so many stars on the nightsky before, because usually she had always been surrounded by many light sources. The sight was breathtakingly beautiful and yet at the moment the atmosphere felt bitterly sweet.
Mourning, Salome gripped Alexander's vessel in hope of receiving some comfort as she wrapped her warm blanket tighter around her thin frame. No tears formed in her glassy eyes. She had already shed too many, but that didn't change the fact that her experiences hurt any less.
"I heard you leave your room. Are you alright?" Came a familiar voice behind her. Surprised, Salome turned around and discovered King Sinbad, who was looking at her worriedly, as he slowly approached her until he halted next to her. He put his hands on the railing and leaned against the wood, while his eyes were searching for her hidden emotions. The young woman first wanted to nod soothingly, but then decided to be honest and shook her head slowly.
