Markos took me to the stern so that I could appreciate the view. According to him, this would be one of the most incredible and magical events of my life. As we got closer to the waterfall, I could feel the drops of water caressing my face. The waterfall was gigantic and impressive, and it was almost impossible for me to see the top of the mountain where it started. A feeling of dread washed over my stomach as the speed of the boat held steady, and we headed straight for the waterfall. Markos explained that the waterfall was the door to the city, but it seemed impossible to stop feeling nervous seeing the immense white wall to which we were heading at full speed. The gigantic ship shuddered as it touched the waterfall, throwing me against the railings, and almost simultaneously, everything calmed down. The ferocious waters of the waterfall had stopped, and small drops of water remained suspended in the air as if time had stopped. The parade of the drops of water through the fine rays of light that crossed adorned everything around me with beautiful colorful lights equal to thousands of rainbows floating next to me. I couldn't believe what my eyes were showing me; I was immersed in one of my mother's stories for the first time. Every detail, every second that passed, brought to my mind the memory of my mother's smile as if I were walking in her footprints, sure that at some point, she was also there. The boat continued moving through the parade of lights, and in front of us, an intense white light began to grow as we approached, announcing the end of the road and the exit of this magical place. The clear light grew more intense, blinding me for a few seconds, revealing a clear sky and a vast blue sea in front of us. I hurried to see the path we had passed, but the vast sea stretched out behind the ship, and two huge stone pillars were left behind on the horizon. In a few minutes, the imposing bay was visible in the distance, the stretch to the pier took less than I thought, and in a short time, I was standing on the pier of a strange new city. I was the only one to leave the ship, and I only carried the clothes I was wearing, my mother's letters, and the strong anguish that seized my heart. I could feel everyone's eyes on me with a lot of mistrust in their looks and a forced courtesy that made me doubt my decision to travel to that place."Eleazar, look for Andre," Markos yelled from the boat. I thanked him with a nod and continued on my way.
Once again, I was alone, with a letter that did not say much and a name that should help me solve my problems. In front of the pier, a wide staircase went up to the entrance to the city from where I could easily see the old building that Markos had described as it was the only one on that side of the port. Along with the port, a varied market of fish and fishing products caught my attention; it was unusual for me to see people buy fishing tools. In Erena, the few fishermen had to build everything they used to fish. I walked slowly towards the building, carefully observing the accelerated movement of the city, a very different place from Erena. It would be tough for me to adapt. My heart missed the warmth and peace of my town and its people. I was struck by a group of fishermen who talked and laughed about his hectic life and how difficult fishing had been at that time of year. They seemed happy with their lives despite complaints about fishing shortages. Their confused glances turned to me at the same time that silence seized their lips. Not knowing how to react, I bowed my head and asked where I could find Andre. After a few seconds, one of them pointed to the old building explaining that he thought he saw Andre arrive a while ago. I thanked the man and accelerated my steps. At the door were two guards, I asked about Andre, and they both looked into each other's eyes after having inspected me with their eyes.
"Follow me," one of them said with a kind look.
He led me to a door where I meet Andre, and then he left. Andre's gaze turned cold and confused. He didn't seem to receive many visits from strangers.
" How can I help you?" He kept his gaze on my eyes as if he were examining my soul through them.
"Markos sent me, I just came to town looking for my father's house, and he said you could help me," I explained in a shaky voice.
