"Victoria!"
I slammed my papers down on my desk and sighed. What did my mum want now? I was in the middle of doing some serious studying for a test next week and I didn't want anyone ruining the free time I had to do it in.
Okay, maybe I didn't have a test, but what if there was a pop quiz? I couldn't afford to fail any of that. Though, I doubt I would since I kept it one hundred in class by paying attention.
"Yes?" I screamed at the top of my lungs to her. My mum didn't reply after that and I groaned. I finally just set my pen down and pushed my fluffy, white roller chair back with a big sigh.
I trudged along the marble landing slowly and up the stairs to my mother's bedroom on the third floor.
It took a while to get up to the top with my body that just ate a couple of chocolate cupcakes the night before. They were quite small though, thankfully. I walked across the big wooden floors before I reached her bedroom door. I turned the handle and saw my mum in her bed with a very red nose.
"Victoria?" she mumbled, throwing a scrunched up tissue into the bin. She missed and it tumbled to the side. I cringed.
"Hmm?" I asked, walking in and shutting the door, ignoring the scrunched up tissue on the floor. I felt the immediate heat radiating off of the radiators along the sides on her bedroom. The heater was turned to full max, because of the freezing cold weather.
She motioned for me to come closer. I groaned and dragged my body over to her bed. She sniffed and reached for another tissue, grabbing the next one in line.
"Did you get the chance to see the new neighbour?" she said with a muffled sniffle. She sneezed loudly and covered her nose with her tissue.
"Bless you," I said. "And no, there aren't even any neighbours."
"Look out of the window, they're moving all their belongings in now," she grumbled, sneezing once again. She snorted and blew into her tissue. "If you see them, please do not invite them into the house. I've gotten sick over the past days as you can tell and-" She sneezed loudly. "I don't need anyone coming in and out, disturbing me. And also they might catch a cold too, so please do not let them inside."
"Okay, Mum."
I nodded slowly and made a face, quietly backing out of her room. I dashed down the stairs back to my studying slash revising. While I was finishing off the mind map, I thought back to what mum had said which only sank into realisation a few minutes after I left her room.
Then I excitedly sprung out of my seat and pried open the pink curtains, trying to get a view of any movements in the house. I caught a sight of a woman in her forties and a man around the same age, carrying a suitcase into the bedroom. The woman was fairly skinny, her face was very pale and she looked a little sick. The man looked very tired and pale too. They didn't seem happy at all.
Great, I was going to be stuck in a room next to an old couple. I shivered and shut the curtains, flopping back down onto my seat.
I was back to doing my work when I got a phone call. My phone buzzed vibrating against the wooden table. I looked at the caller. It was Holly Hills, my best friend. I smiled and slid the answer button to the right. I picked it up, placing it beside my ear, listening. Holly was the school president, she got to have serious talks with the head teacher. She had the ability to hold assemblies whenever she wanted.
"Vicky!" Holly screamed into the microphone. I cringed at the sudden outburst and set my pen down.
"Yeah?" I asked, leaning back into my seat to get a more comfortable position.
"I was talking to Miss Hayden, and she said there's gonna be a new student!" she squealed, happier than ever. Miss Hayden was our head teacher. I coughed and rolled my eyes, picking up my pen again. Another silly phone call. God dammit, what a waste of time.
Though, what a coincidence. Someone was moving in next door. Perhaps they had a child who was enrolling in my school?
"So?" I asked. I picked up my pen and started clicking it.
"So? So? The boy is freaking delicious! His whole freaking face is heaven. I just want to lick his whole face up and kiss every inch of him and then take him to my bed and cuddle him!" she screamed and then after a while, she realised what she said, and giggled. "Sorry, Miss Hayden showed me a picture of what he'd look like. He's just super hot you know?"
I rolled my eyes again. "What's his name then?" I asked her, placing the pen in my mouth.
She squealed into the phone loudly again. "He's called Ace Will and he's hot."
"Really? Hmm, that's cool." I doubt it. There were like zero percent of hot guys in my school. And I didn't think my mum or dad would approve of me checking out any guys at school.
Holly let out a puff of air. I could tell she was a little pissed by the amount of interest and attention I was paying her. I started to laugh quietly.
"What?" she asked in disbelief.
"Nothing; it's just that whenever a new boy comes along, you always just scream and fangirl over them. You've been with too many boys Holly, calm the freak down first before making another move. Wait, are you even over Ben yet?"
Ben was her ex-boyfriend of six whole months. That was a record for Holly.
Holly then started to laugh. "Of course!"
"Oh," was all I said after that. "Anyway, the house next door is finally decided to get some owners!"
Holly made a sound. "Good; now there's someone to clean it. Now I can go into your room with the blinds open, finally some natural sunlight. That lamp was bothering me."
"Yeah, but there's this freaking married or something, couple living in the room next to me and they're gonna bug me for the rest of my life-- I should just keep my curtains closed."
"They might not Vick. Don't be such a meanie, just keep them closed. Anyway, see you at school tomorrow and keep your eye out for a really hot guy named Ace."
I laughed. "Will do."
