Chapter 10

•Alejandro's pov•

'Recap'

She looks sick. She gave me a sad smile. "What'd they do to her?" I whisper to myself.

'End of recap'

Good thing they didn't hear us come in. I hide behind fhe island and Marco hides somewhere else. I need to get her out of here. I can let her get hurt.

Alverez walks over to Madeline. "Tell me where he is you bitch." He says.

"Even if I knew I wouldn't tell you." She says and spits in his face. He whips his face. A grin showing and then he slaps her.

That right there got me pissed. I stand up and point the gun at him. "You better not touch her again Alverez." I tell him. He grabs Kaleb and stands up holding him by his throat and has a gun pointed at his head.

"No." Madeline says.

"Let him go, Alverez." I say.

"I believe you have something that belongs to me. Where is the whore at?" He says.

"You are not getting my Rosy." Marco says.

"Well, I guess you're to late on that say." Alverez says and one of his guys bring in Rosy. 

"Help me." She says to Marco.

"Put the guns down or this little twat dies." He says. I look over at Maddie and she looks at me pleadingly. I put down my gun and so does Marco.

He laughs and then he shoots Marco. Marco falls on the ground. Rosy runs over to him. "Marco." She yells.

Why? Fuck! I hear police sirens. They are getting closer. "You called the cops?" He asks.

"No." I say.

"I did." Rosy says. The bang on the door.

"SSPD OPEN UP!" They yell through the door and then they bust it open. "Drop the guns." They point at Alverez and his guys. They drop their guns and then they handcuff them.

"I need and ambulance." Rosy yells.

I untie  Sophia, and Maddie. They call an ambulance and they come and put Marco in the back and Rosy gets in with him.

•Madeline's pov•

Sophia's parents come and pick her up and they call my parents. I sit on the couch by Kaleb. He wraps his arms around me as I cry. Kaleb brings me and Alex coffee and then sits across from us.

I was in shock. I couldn't even drink my coffee. "I- I'm gonna take a nap." I say and I go upstairs and lay on my bed.

What they did to Sophia changed my life forever and probably hers. I was scared. They hurt her and in front of me. They took Kaleb to the other room.

Why didn't I take her home? This is my fault. Sophia won't even talk to me. She won't even talk to her parents. I'm scared for her. 

I close my eyes and all I can see is what they did to Soph.

Alex walks in my room." Hey." He says.

•Alejandro's pov •

I sit by Maddie on the bed and  she lays her head on my shoulder. We have been sitting here quit for a couple minutes which feels like an hour. "So-" I say and then trail off.

She looks at me. "Are you gonna tell me what happened? This isn't you. You're usually always smiling. I'm worried." I says.

"I'm fine." She's lying. 

"You're lying. You aren't fine. Something happened and you aren't telling me." I say to her. She starts crying.

"You should've seen what they did to Sophia. It probably scarred her for life. They made me watch to. You don't understand how horrible it was. I just wanna forget it." She says.

"Is Marco gonna be alright?" She asks.

"I don't know. I haven't heard anything yet." I say. She sighs and wipes her face

"Mom and dad are coming home today. They cancelled their trip." She says.

"Oh ok. You should probably sleep in here tonight. I don't want you alone." I say.

"I probably won't be able to sleep." She says. I stand up.

"I'll be downstairs if you need me." I say.

"Please don't leave me." She says. "Ever."

"I- I can't promise you that I won't leave ever but I can promise you that I won't leave now." I tell her. I have to get out of this town after senior year. I just need to get away from here.

"Alejandro Steven Perez, don't leave me. I need you." She says. I sit down beside her and I rub her back as she cries. She burys her face in my shoulder.

"I can't stay in sunnyside forever, mi chava. I have to get out of here. I won't be able to go to college because I can't afford it and I can't live here forever. I have to get away from the gang. I can't use that as an excuse to stay here. I love you. I do, Maddie. But I still have to leave after I graduate." I tell her.

She lets out a sob. "You're gonna leave me either way. Probably even before you graduate or after." Her voice broke every time she talked. It made me sad. I get down on one knee in front of her and I lift up her chin to look at me.

"Look, you'll have to move on. You can't waste your time worrying if i'll come back for you because I won't. Find someone who'll make you happy. Find someone who values your existence as much as I do. Someone that can always be there for you no matter what." I say and she hugs me and we fall on the floor with her on top of me.

"I love you. I don't want you to leave. I love you. I love you. I- I love you." She says through sobs. "You can't leave. I'll go with you."

"No. You can't." I say. "You can't. Your gonna have a life, you're gonna go to college. Have fun. "

Her mom walks in. "Am I interrupting something?" She asks.

"No, I was just about to go to the hospital to see Marco." I say. Maddie gets up and I leave.

•Madeline's pov•

"He's gonna leave." I tell her. My mother.

"Just give him time." She says.

"That's not what he wants. He'll probably leave before he graduates or after. He'll probably go back to Mexico." I say. "I need him here with me. I haven't even kissed him."

"I'll come back." My mother says and then she gets up and walks out.
