Pulling uselessly on the restraints that held him down to the table, he let out a low growl like noise, the straps keeping him immobile rubbing places into his fair and tender skin. One of the scientists above him called for some sort of drug he learned would knock him out, and that was the last thing he wanted. He wanted to stay awake and alert; he wanted to get out of here.
The needle stabbed him in the side of the neck, and he kept struggling until he couldn't anymore. Progessively he weakened, his tugs getting lighter and rarer. His head fell against the table, laboured breaths heaving his tight chest up and down as eye lids slipped over his hazy brown eyes.

An unknown time later, Xander started to come to. It was pretty much impossible to keep time down here. The only light was from oil lamps or candles and since he was always being put under it threw everything off. Though, he sometimes gets a hint of how long he's been done here. He remembers dates that the Humans mention. He wasn't really sure how they worked since they were so much different than back home, but he thinks he was beginning to understand.
This time when he woke up in was in the only other place he's been in the base other than on the table, in a small pitch black room. The Jaleens, which was Xander's species, had really good eye sight, meaning they were able to see farther and better than the Human eye from what he could tell, and since the Humans were always needing these strange sticks with beams of light shooting from them to see - or flashlights as he had come to learn they were called - it was clear that he could see in the dark better than them.
The heavy door peeled open in the front of the room, and there stood the siluette of someone who he had come to know personally.
"Hello, Bambi," she greeted, a sickenly sweet smile curling her lips, the nickname she had given him flowing off her tongue with ease. Fear along with a bit of anger flushed through him, though also a sense of peace surfaced. That was the first face he saw when he woke up, the first voice he heard - no matter what anyone else tells him, he's convinced that she ruined everything for him. The way he worked was he needed someone to blame - and he chose her.
Oh, what a privilege.
He only blamed the people he cared about to distance them from him, to keep them at an arm's length so whenever he needs a helping hand up they would be right there. Though, why did he care about her? Was it because she cared about him?
"Bambi, no need to be all frightened. All's okay." Raina stepped forward, her dark curls placed perfected around her deeply toned skin. How she kept in such good shape being down here all the time was a miracle, he looked like.. well.. shit.
Raina came done here often, teaching him things he would need to know about life since she would always say, "We're letting you out soon, Bambi, you're almost complete." It confused him, especially since she's been saying that for a couple years now, and she always refused to tell him what is was that was almost complete.
The first thing she taught him was how to speak English, and it was hard, but in the end she resorted to one of her wild experiments and the next time he woke up he had the basics of the English language. It terrified him what they could do, honestly.
Taking a seat which she brought with her, she softly closed the door before she sat down. A small hissing sound and a spark flew when the small wooden stick was drug across the hard surface, but after a couple more times, a small flame was flickering from it. Raina used the match the lite an oil lamp by the door.
"Only a couple more days now." That's a first, she's never said anything like that. Did that really mean that he was almost free? He couldn't let his guard down, though.
"Why should I trust you?"
She smiled, shaking her head, slowly pushing herself off of the chair and making her way towards him. Standing his ground, he narrowed his eyes as the soft stroke of her fingers trailed down his jaw. He flinched back, only gaining pain from the small touch.
"Bambi, just enjoy this, now is the last time you can ask me anything you want," she leaned forward, her lips mere inches away from his own, "anything at all."
He swallowed thickly, tired eyes staring straight into hers.
"Where did you get the nickname Bambi?" he asked, finding it reasonable. He's asked many times, but she never answered, saying that they had much more important things to discuss. So when she started to tell him, he was surprised.
A small, amused chuckle came from her as she backed away from him, guiding him over to the chair before urging him to sit down in it. He obeyed.
"It's a character in a children's movie, starts off as a tiny little baby deer, could barely even walk."
Xander found himself easily making the connection. He knew nothing, he was clueless and dumb as the character she was talking about. He was cut from his thoughts when she sat down on his lap, straddling him.
"He didn't have any family, he was all alone in this big strange world."
She rested her head on his shoulder and he stared down at her, stroking a hand through her hair. He hoped this is what people did and this wasn't too strange. Then again, their relationship was strange, during the day she was in charge of the people who put him through hell and during the night she loved him?
"Still, why that character?" he asked, wanting to get as much information on the topic as he could.
Lifting her head from it's spot on his shoulder, he grunted, his legs burning with a fiery pain and his shoulder aching.
"Someone had to teach you how to walk."
Gently, she got off of his lap, motioning for him to stand up. He once again obeyed. Then she kissed him. It wasn't a first, it was quite common for the two, but it still caught him by surprise. They did share an odd relationship. He wondered if anyone else knew about this.
Parting the kiss, Raina sighed happily, grabbing the chair and unlocking the door with a code that changes every time she comes in or out. Blowing out the lamp, she waved before shutting the door, leaving his eyes to adjust to the darkness.
