Never Knowing - Chapter Eleven

When she wakes up there is a blinding light shining through a window. "Heaven?" Kathy mumbles, opening her eyes slightly. "No earth. Tell me what the hell is going on Kath. Is it something so bad that you wanted to kill yourself!?" Shay says angrily. Kathy turns away from him and looks at her hands. "Leave me alone Shay."
"Well I won't until you tell me what is going on."
Kathy shrugs, "Mum kicked me out."
"Why?"
"IT'S NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS IS IT? YOU BROKE UP WITH ME SO GET LOST!" Kathy yells at the top of her lungs. Shay looks taken aback, "Kath I had no choice."
"Shut up Shay, ok? I don't want to hear it."
"Where are you gonna go?"
"Don't know. Well bye Shay."
Shay grabs her arm and stops her from leaving. "Tell me what is going on NOW Katherine."
Kathy just shakes her head. "I can't."
"You can and you will. NOW KATHERINE!" He yells angrily.
"I - I'm pregnant." She whimpers. Shay stares at her. "What the hell I-"
"Stop it! It doesn't matter, ok? I need to go." Kathy says, trying to wrench away from his grip. "You'll stay here." He says quietly. Kathy scoffs, "No thanks. I'd rather die."
"Kath you don't understand, I didn't want to break up with you. I had too."
"Explain. I told you, you tell me - that's fair."
Shay groans in annoyance but starts talking. "My enemy's sister is going to get revenge. She has people teamed up with her. I had to keep you safe."
"Well whatever ok? I'll stay at Mia's or something." Kathy says impatiently.
Shay turns her to him and kisses her hard on the lips. He deepens the kiss and only pulls away for air. "I do still love you Kath."
"I still love you. But you broke up with me so it doesn't matter."
Shay kisses her again and pulls her closer to him. "Be with me again Kath please."

"N - no I can't! You broke up with me so you obviously don't want me." Kathy mutters.
"Did you not just listen to what I said? I do want you. Please Kath."
"I'll think about it, ok?" Kathy says quietly. Shay nods and kisses her cheek before letting go of her arm. Kathy sits on the bed and starts crying. Shay hugs her close and she sobs into his chest.

"Yes." Kathy whispers that night, and Shay looks at her. "Really?" He asks and Kathy nods. He smiles and kisses her before pulling her closer. He rolls ontop of her and kisses her, smiling.

Kathy wakes up early and races to the bathroom before throwing up violently. Shay comes and holds back her hair. Kathy sits back against the bath and tucks her head between her legs. "Are you ok?" Shay asks worriedly. "I'm fine it'll go in a minute. " Kathy mumbles. Shay nods and sits beside her.

After a couple of days her friend Mia gets suspicious at school. "What's up Kath?" She confronts her during art. Kathy shakes her head and says nothing. Mia persists but Kathy keeps saying that it's nothing. Shay hasn't told anyone either, which Kathy is glad about.

The next day is the first when Kathy doesn't wake up and rush to the bathroom. The next day is the same, and the same after that. "Kath when did you last have morning sickness?" Shay asks her. Kathy shrugs, "I don't know a week or something."
Shay frowns but says nothing else. A week or so later Kathy feels a gut wrenching pain in her stomach and panics. She runs to the toilet but locks Shay out. He pounds on the door but she doesn't let him in. That's when Kathy realises that she's on her period.

"I've lost it." Kathy cries when she finally opens the bathroom door. Shay hugs her and she buries her face in his shirt. "Well....That's a good thing, right Kath?" Shay says awkwardly.
Kathy looks at him, "Oh yeah I guess it is. Sorry just hormonal." She lies, pulling away from Shay and going downstairs for breakfast. Kathy says nothing during breakfast and doesn't even look in Shay's direction.

Later on Kathy texts her mum and says that she's lost it. Her mum doesn't reply even though she's seen the message. When Kathy calls her she declines. She cries and hugs Shay who rocks her gently. "We're in a bit of a mess aren't we?" He murmurs, "Come on." He takes her down to the beach and they walk hand in hand.

"Kath can I ask you something?" He says to her. "Sure what?"
"What would you say if I said that I wanted us to look for a flat together?"
"That would be....great!" Kathy says, smiling. "Ok. Well cool." Shay says, smiling back. "Tomorrow we can start looking at places, yeah?" He asks her. She smiles and nods "Can't wait."
