"RUN!" Evey screamed before taking off, pulling Amber with her.
That was all I needed to activate my inner rocket. That, and the sight in front of me. I spun around and ran as fast as I could to the stairs and ran down the steps, stumbling and falling once again, making the glass shards dig farther in.
"RUN, RUN!!!" Evey screamed at the top of her lungs once again as she turned on a slightly bloody flashlight with a free hand as she came down the stairs.
I once again stood up and started running. I'm gonna have to do something about these injuries, I thought as I strived to catch up to Evey and Amber. I could hear Anika right behind me, but didn't dare look behind.
I could see the beam of the flashlight dancing around in front of me, lighting up the dark hallway. Our panicked footsteps echoed as we sprinted down deeper into the basement, looking for an exit. My legs were starting to feel numb from everything that had happened, when the hall split into two smaller passages, allowing me to take a break.
"Which way?" Anika asked in between pants and gasps as she came up from behind, causing me to flinch possibly the biggest flinch in history.
"Don't do that!" I snapped at her.
"Sorry." Anika muttered.
"Let's go..." Evey trailed off into deep thought. "Left." She concluded.
"Let's really not do that." I objected as I raised my head to look at Evey in the eyes. "Every time you've made a decision, we've either lost time or had someone killed. It was your idea to even come to this place!" I argued.
"What do YOU want to do?!" Evey argued back.
"This isn't the time to argue!" Anika cut in. "Seriously." Evey and I glared at each other with unforgiving eyes.
"Well, I want to go left because It has the better feel to it! The right passage is screaming 'murder!'. So if you want to go right, then you might as well just walk right into the monster-"
"Which is right behind you." Amber interrupted. Evey shone the flashlight in my direction, and I saw a shadow tower over me.
"Let's go!" Evey said as she pulled Amber with her into the left passage.
I panicked, but was frozen in place. How did that thing even manage to creep up on us? I didn't even hear it!
Thud.
A heavy footstep behind me brought me back to reality. I looked between the right and left passage.
Thud.
Evey and Amber had gone left, I could hear their footsteps echo.
Thud.
The right passage was just like the left passage, just in a different direction.
Thud.
But Evey had the flashlight, and she went left.
I could feel the monster behind me, the dark aura of it seeping to my heart, sending chills through my body. I could hear my heartbeat as if it were right in my ears.
I felt the air shift as it started to slowly lean towards me. I watched as the light in the left passage became more and more distant.
Left or right? I thought, staring blankly ahead of me. Left, or right?
