I found myself lying on the ground. Am I dead? I thought. I opened my eyes to see a dark ceiling made out of a stone like substance. It's just like the basement... Wait, WHAT?!?!
I bolted upright, aware of my surroundings. I was in the basement. So... I'm in Hell? I thought as I stood up.
"Oh, you're awake." A voice behind me said.
"OhmYGaWDSatAnPleAseDon'THurTmEIsWEarIdIdn'TkiLlhIm!" I blurted out as I quickly spun around.
"What? Hanako, what the heck, you KILLED someone?! And, this isn't Hell." A second voice said.
The fog cleared from eyes, and I saw two figures standing in front of me.
"Evey? Amber?" I said in a surprised voice. "How am I here? What happened? Like, after the monster came up behind me? How am I not dead?"
"I don't know. We stopped to take a breath and there you were, on the ground behind us. Do you remember anything after your very near death?" Amber asked, still breathing heavily from all the running.
"I don't... Remember. How long have I been out for?" I questioned.
"Just a couple minutes." Evey answered. "Come on, we have to find an exit."
I stood up and started walking with my two remaining friends down the hall. Unsurprisingly, nothing ever changed much, still no signs of an exit. The scavenged flashlight's beam of light being the only source of light in the otherwise pitch dark tunnel. As we went deeper in, we could hear water drip down from the ceiling, creating small puddles in some areas. We continued to walk in a wary silence, constantly looking behind to avoid any surprise attacks like before.
"Wait." Amber broke the silence. "If there's water dripping down, there must be a water source above us." She pointed upwards, catching a glistening drop of water on the tip of her index finger. "We've heard the water drips for a long while, so it must be a medium-sized lake. The ceiling and walls are the only things that keep us separated from it. If we manage to break the walls, we can swim up to the surface."
"Yeah, but what if we're several hundreds of meters deep?" I objected. "I don't even know how to swim that well."
Amber's seed of hope was withering, taking us back to our silent walking. The drips of water were ceasing, bringing us back to a dark, damp tunnel.
"OH MY GOD!" Evey exclaimed.
"What is it?" Amber said alarmed.
"Wasn't there a lake on our way here?" Evey said with wide eyes.
"And didn't Anika bump into a metal box?" Amber continued with excitement.
"So that means..." Evey trailed off.
"YES!" I excitedly exclaimed my opinion as I jumped up and down. "Let's go!" I said as I started running forward.
For the first time ever since the first sighting of the monster, we ran not out of fear, but of happiness that we were almost out of this death trap. I hope there isn't any more obstacles, I thought as I ran towards a a guaranteed freedom.
