fun fact: "old school" was recorded on january 6th, 1993. aaliyah was 13 (she would turn 14 days after this) and was the first song recorded on AANBAN. you could tell because her voice sounded different and was still developing, now enjoy !

Aaliyah's POV

I smiled as I walked into the recording studio with my uncle Barry, I am so excited to finally meet the one and only R. Kelly.. my friends and other girls at school would kill to be in my position right now. R. Kelly is every teenage girls dream man, and they aren't lying.

My uncle opened the door and there he was, his back facing us and another one too, which I'm guessing is his producer's.

"Rob," My uncle said. R. Kelly didn't answer since the music was too loud, "Rob." he said again. He turned around. Holy moly.. it's him. it's really him. "I would like for you to meet my niece and the newest signee to Blackground Records, Aaliyah." I nodded my head, "It's an honor to meet you Mr. Kelly." I smiled. "Yeah, you too." He said nodding.

He seemed kind of cold and reserved but he seemed to be a lot more focused on the music. "The door for the booth is that way, headphones are in there for you." He said pointing to the door that leads into the recording studio.

"Oh, okay." I said shyly. I walked over to the door and walked inside and sat on the stool by the mic, picked up the headphones and looked at him for permission. My uncle wanted me to sing for him so he could see what I was all about and so he could maybe produce my first album.

He nodded. Okay, here we go Aaliyah, this is it. You gotta put your all into it.

"Let me know, let me know.." You sang.
"Let me know, let me know.. let me know.." Kelly leaned forward, intrigued, and your uncle smiled.

"When I feel, what I feel.. sometimes it's hard to tell you so." You softly sang as you began feeling the music.

"Hold up, you keep going with that let me play somethin!" he said as he leaned back and pressed a button as a beat began playing. He rested his thumb on his jaw and his index finger right by his ear and looked at you in a way. You smiled and he did too as you kept singing. When you finished everyone clapped so hard and loud that you could hear it through the walls.

Kelly looked at your uncle and he nodded at him. I think that's a good sign, I hope. This has been my dream ever since I played the orphan Tessie in "Annie" back in 1st grade. Ever since then, I knew being on stage, singing and dancing, was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

I walked out of the booth extremely happy and satisfied, because I knew I nailed it. I did it. "We'll give you a call" Kelly said to you. "You did real good Aaliyah. I see somethin' in you." He said pointing at you.

"Oh, thank you." You said shyly. Wow, R Kelly, the R Kelly just complimented you.

You walked out of the studio with your Uncle Berry to his car so you can get home and tell your parents the good news, oh my god, I have a chance at truly making it big! This is it!
