Identity Crisis (A Miraculous Ladybug and Chat Noir Fanfic)

Chapter 7: Marinette's POV

An Akuma that will force you to tell the truth. Now that's a challenge. Luckily, Chat Noir and I have our mouths covered. That way if we get zapped we can speak and no one will understand us. This makes the fight suddenly fair. Chat Noir and I head into battle. The Akuma laughs as he sees our masks.
"Ha! You think those will stop you from spilling the truth!" He yells.
I cock an eyebrow at him, and he knew exactly what it meant. Angerly, he zaps me with his ring. I assume that's where the Akuma is. Suddenly, my mouth starts to move.
"Mmmph...Mmmfff...Mmph." I say.
The akuma's eyes widen in shock.
"No! Not fair!" He yells, and then zaps Chat Noir.
"Mmmfff. Mmmmph." He says.
I couldn't tell what Chat was trying to say, but I knew what my mouth was spilling. I had said who I was. Thankfully this mask worked. Chat and I, mumbling like weirdos, lunge at the Akuma. He dodges. It soon becomes a cat and mouse game until somehow, the Akuma managed to get his hand on a staff of sorts. We were sure how he got it, but he now has a weapon. So Chat and I pulled out our own to keep the fight fair. As we were exchanging blows, the Akuma suddenly smirked. He took the hit of Chat Noir's staff, but by doing so allows him to stick his staff underneath my mask. He pulls his staff forward, my mask falling off. I quickly drop my yo-yo, and cover my mouth. Chat Noir drops to my side.
"Yes! YES! TELL US YOUR DARKEST SECRET LADYBUG!" The Akuma yells.
I began to shake. My hands wanted to move, but I was using all of my will power to keep them over my mouth. Chat's eyes were worried. He then nods, and suddenly jolts up. I knew what he was going to do. He was going to try and get the Akuma before I gave into it. My heart beat hard, yet it also sank. I was afraid to watch him fight alone with me on the sidelines. I had to get my mask back. As I tried to maneuver to get it, Chat Noir somehow back the Akuma up onto me. I smirk behind my hand, and trip him. Chat quickly jumps on him, removing his mask.
"I love Ladybug! Cataclysm!" He says.
Oh no...we'll say a truth before we can activate our powers. I instantly became worried. The Akuma flew from the ring as Chat destroyed it. I grab my yo-yo and stand up. I need both hands to open it. I swallow hard. I then remove my hand, and quickly open the yo-yo.
"No more evil doing for you little Akuma! Time to de-evilize! I think I might-" I cut myself off by covering my mouth.
I then capture the Akuma, and let it go as a white butterfly. Now I have the use the masks to put everything back to normal. I take a deep breath, and grab one of them.
"I think I might know who-" I cut myself off again.
Chat was covering his mouth and he tilted his head at me. I didn't want to tell him that I think I might know who Hawkmoth is. Especially with who my suspect is! I groan and remove my hand. I bite my lip, causing pain to Serge through me.
"Ouch!" I yelp, quickly I recover though, and throw the mask in the air "Miraculous Ladybug!" I say.
Suddenly everything returns to normal, and Chat and I are free to speak. I approach him and stick my fist out.
"Pound it." I say.
"What were you going to say?" He asks.
My eyes widen and my heart drops.
"It's unimportant...please can we talk later?"
Chat's eyes scan me before he nods with a light sigh. He then raises his fist and connects it to mine.
"Pound it." He says with a soft smile.
We both then disappear into the school, and turn back into Marinette and Adrien. My heart was so heavy. How could I tell him I suspect his dad to be Hawkmoth? And if he is..why would he want our Miraculous? What is so important that he needs that desperate wish? I have to find out the truth. I sigh and lay my head down on my desk. I could tell Alya wanted to say something but was too nervous. After school Adrien approaches me.
"Can we talk?" He asks.
I nod and follow him to his car. Though he said he wanted to talk, we got into his car and had a silent ride to his house. When we got there we went straight to his room. He sighs as he closes the door behind us.
"What were you gonna say earlier?"
I take a deep breath and look away.
"I think...I might know..who..Hawkmoth is."
Within seconds Adrien has me by the shoulders. I couldn't make eye contact.
"What?! When were you gonna tell me?" He asks quickly.
"I wanted to wait til I knew for sure!"
"Look at me!"
I was shocked. Was he angry? I swallow hard and look him in the eyes. He wasn't angry..he was worried. He then pulls me into a hug.
"Why would you pursue without me? What if your suspect is Hawkmoth and finds out? What if I'm not near to protect you? Or worse! He finds out you're Ladybug!" Adrien tells me.
He had a good point. I hug him back, and burry my face into his chest.
"I'm sorry. I didn't think... I just...please let me do this on my own. If I'm right...I'll tell you." I respond.
He holds onto me in silence for another moment before releasing me. He was...crying.
"I just...don't want to lose you...I love you Marinette."
My heart skips a beat, "I love you too Adrien."
He wipes his tears, and smiles at me. I understood his worry, but the identity of Hawkmoth will have to wait for him until I know for sure...please...please don't be his dad...
