"My memories of her cling to me like the wine she spilled on my favorite white shirt. Haunting me in every crowd, in every corner and grocery line. Making me pray over silhouettes and shadows. Hoping that its finally her.

She was the perfect daughter who lived in a reality completely different from mine. With a hand promised to another, I never really had a chance to start with.

Still. I'll stay here with you, under your umbrella in the middle of this pouring rain. Forever frozen in time like the photographs you cherish so much despite your broken smile. In this moment, for the first time, I finally knew what I wanted.

So while this moment still exists...

"Ay aba sumasagot ka pa?!"

I quickly closed my mouth and took a deep breath when her palm struck my cheek. I tried to calm myself down by clenching my fists to the point where my nails were digging in.

Ang sakit pero kailangan kong pigilan sarili ko. Enough na yung nasumbatan ko siya once. I shouldn't do it again.

Its not like she'll listen to me anyway.

"Should I remind you of your place in this company, Eliza?", napatingin ako kay mama.

"No, mom"

Wala akong magagawa. Kahit noon pa man, wala akong nagawa.

"Then leave my sight and get back to your work", she coldly dismissed me as she arranged the paper work on top of her desk.

I never wanted to be here in the first place.

Irritated, I grabbed my bag from the table and stormed right out of her office. Nataranta pa yung secretary niya nung nagkasalubong kami. Naawa ako ng slight dahil for sure siya naman ang pag-iinitan ng ulo ni mom, but even so, I will not go back to my desk and do her bidding.

"Oh ano? Inom na ba yan sis?", Lux asked from the other line while I pressed the phone closer to my ear. I immediately called her when I left the elevator cause I needed emotional support.

I was walking aroud the parking lot to find my car. I know it to myself that I won't be able to call my driver, Kuya Ben, because he'll just report me back to my mother or worse, give me another lecture.
