The ride back was uneventful, which after the events at the hospital was a relieving change. By the time the gates of Alexandria rolled open for them Beth was exhausted and irritated. Maggie ran up to the bike as it came to a stop, "What happened?"
Beth got off the bike, a scowl on her face, "Where is Fiona?"
"I...I don't know, why?" Maggie started to follow Beth as she walked toward medical, "Beth talk to me!"
"Wait!" Beth snapped back, the closer they got to town hall they began to hear moaning and someone screaming in pain, as Beth opened the door she found Fiona crouching on the ground with Shelby.
Shelby looked up, Fiona was holding her belly and started to cry out in pain again, "I found her near the South wall, I don't know what she was doing there but she went into labor."
No matter how angry Beth was, no matter how much she wanted to brush Fiona aside she wouldn't let the baby suffer for it's mother's mistakes, "Get her on a cot."
As Maggie and Shelby helped Fiona into the room, Daryl ran in and looked around, catching Beth's eyes, "How can I help?"
Beth was surprised, she had to fight with him just to go get the supplies after they discovered Fiona was a spy, it showed a lot of character development that he would offer help in this situation, "Hot water, some towels, rags, whatever you can find. Something clean to wrap the baby in." Daryl nodded and exited the room. Beth pulled out everything from her bag that they needed while Shelby and Maggie worked to get Fiona's pants off. Once they were off they held her legs up, resting on each of their shoulders, Maggie looked down.
"She's dilated!" Maggie looked over to Beth, "You got this?"
Beth finished washing her hands and nodded, "We delivered a baby at Grady." Walking over she checked on Fiona, "I'm gonna need a push." Fiona screamed out as she pushed, Beth shook her head, "No no, stop!!!" She called out, Fiona stopped pushing, "Dammit..." She looked up to Maggie, "Feet." Beth stood up, Daryl walked in with water and towels.
"Fiona we gotta cut it out." Maggie looked at the woman, "You gotta be strong ok? Be strong for your baby."
Beth looked over to Daryl, she took a towel from him as Shelby and Maggie rested Fiona's legs back down on the table, "Maggie...you gotta cut." Beth locked eyes with her sister, "I've never cut before, you have."
Maggie lowered her voice, "Yeah, and Lori died." She stepped over to Beth.
"Lori knew the situation. This time we have supplies, we can do this." Beth took Maggie's hands, "We can do this together."
Maggie nodded, turning back to Fiona who was screaming out in pain. "Ok..." Maggie took the scalpel, holding it loosely in her hands. "Clean her abdomen." Beth took some alcohol and dumped it on a towel, rubbing it gently along Fiona's lower stomach, "Once the baby is out, Beth you clean it up and get it cryin. I'll clean her up and close the wound."
"Will she die?" Shelby looked over the table with fear in her eyes, holding Fiona's hand as she hollered again.
"I don't know." Maggie shook her head, "Is there...something to give her?"
"I already did through the IV." Beth nodded, clearing a space on the other cot for the baby, Daryl helped spread out towels, "I can't give her more."
Maggie took a deep breath to stop her hand from shaking, "Ok, let's do this." Maggie locked eyes with Fiona and they both nodded to one another, Maggie touched the spot with her finger and remembered Lori's words about where to cut. When Maggie began to cut into Fiona's belly she looked up quickly to see Fiona had passed out, Shelby looked over in fear, "That's good...that's good." She finished cutting and pulling out the baby, Beth hurried over with a damn towel and took it so Maggie could quickly clean up Fiona and sew her wound. "Shelby, grab me some blood? She's gonna need it." Beth instructed Shelby on what blood to use and how to hook it up while she cleaned off the baby.
"It's a little girl." Beth smiled, cleaning the baby off and taking the suction squeez to clean out her nose and as she did the baby began to cry, "There you go!" She smiled more, looking up to Daryl who actually had a little smile on his face, "She's healthy." Beth finished cleaning her off, wrapped her in a clean blanket and picked her up.
"Give her here..." Daryl reached out, "Go help Maggie." Beth handed the baby over to Daryl, it reminded her how much he enjoyed Judith when she was little, how he was the only one beside her that could really get her to calm down and sleep. Beth walked over and looked at Maggie's work. "That's clean, daddy would be proud."
"Thanks." Maggie smiled, "I hope she makes it."
Beth looked over at Fiona's face, she nodded, "Yeah..."
After everything was cleaned up they fed the baby and changed out Fiona's IV. Maggie, Daryl, and Beth walked out of the room, leaving Shelby to sit with Fiona. "What?" Maggie turned around, she was standing in front of the large bookcase.
"We were led to a herd. I don't recognize their face, it wasn't Beta, I know that much." Daryl repeated.
Beth rocked the baby in her arms, "The only people who knew where we were going...besides us, was Fiona. We were so far out Maggie, they had to of known."
"It was a trap." Daryl shook his head.
Maggie looked away, "What are we going to do?"
"Talk to her." Beth looked over, "Get what information we can."
"Hell, we saved her baby. Maybe even her life." Daryl sighed.
There was a crash from the room, Daryl and Maggie looked at one another and headed down the hall, Beth began to sing to the crying baby. Opening the door Daryl found the cot was empty, he pushed the door open more and saw Shelby was on the floor covered in blood. Maggie pulled the pistol out of her belt holder and walked into the room, Daryl followed with a knife. Daryl made his way over to Shelby, pushing his fingers into her neck, he looked up and shook his head. Shelby's neck had been cut, she was dead. Daryl pushed his knife into the young woman's temple. Maggie turned back to look at the bathroom door, it was shut. Daryl watched Maggie slowly make her way over to it, turning the handle and pulling it open quickly. Inside she found Fiona hunched over in the tub, she was breathing heavy. "Fiona..."
"Couldn't have been a normal birth...no. Had to cut me up, now I can't escape this hell." Her tone was different than her usual upbeat voice.
"Doesn't matter right now what you are Fiona, we want to help you." Maggie swallowed, "We wouldn't have tried to save you if we didn't want that."
Fiona looked up, she was holding her stomach, it was bleeding down her legs, "What the hell makes you think I want to be saved?"
"Your baby..." Maggie nodded.
Fiona laughed a little, "I don't give a shit about the baby, I didn't want it. He wanted it, he made me come here to feed them information and told me that you would help me give birth...then Beta kills him! I got no reason to be saved, I don't want it."
"Fiona..." Maggie stepped forward, "You killed Shelby..."
"She's nice...was nice." Fiona nodded, "She wouldn't let me get up. It's a shame."
"You're going to bleed out..." Maggie noticed she was already shaking from blood loss.
"I know that, I pulled out the stitching..."She smiled, it was creepy, "Any time now." Maggie stood there, she watched as Fiona grew pale and sweaty, her breathing slowed, "Let me die...please." The last sentence made Maggie's heart break, the tone was sad and fill of pity. After a few more minutes Maggie turned around to find Daryl standing in the doorway.
"Poor kid," Daryl nodded, "Doesn't deserve that."
"She deserves better and she'll get that here." Maggie nodded, walking past Daryl.
