Donald had gone out for the day, leaving the boys to be baby-sat by the Windhams, Dolores and Anthony. Anise was also there, but she was only paying attention to Louie, occasionally blowing a kiss in his direction when his back was turned.
Dewey was searching through Donald's things when he found a crystal box. He opened it, revealing a pair of diamond earrings. A note was attached to it reading Della, I'm so sorry about Emmett, but maybe it's for the best.
He hid the box in his room; he would ask Donald about it when he came back.
"Dewford Duck, why would you have this?!" Donald yelled.
"I just wanted to know what it was," Dewey said, crying.
"It's nothing!"
Donald threw the box at the wall behind him, shattering it instantly. The earrings were scratched, and the note fluttered to the ground.
"Unca Donald, why would you do that?"
"Go to your room! Now!"
Dewey ran into his room. Huey and Louie, who had been silently watching the display, followed him and shut the door.
Donald picked up the pieces of the box. He put a few pieces together to read the engraving on the box To my dear sister, my sweet twin, my other half. He remembered now; he had bought her this box after she got her earrings back. Now, he had broken it in his anger. One of the last of Della's things he still had.
Tears fell from his face. He had been terribly angry since her disappearance. Now he had broken a valuable memory...
"Unca Donald, Dewey says he's sorry," Huey said, looking down at his feet.
"He's fine now. Tell him I'm sorry for yelling."
Dewey poked his head into the room. His eyes glistened with tears still.
"I'm sorry, Dewey, I'm just a little upset that you're going through my stuff."
"I'm sorry I made you angry, Unca Donald," he said, hugging Donald.
The boys then left the room, leaving Donald alone to attempt to fix the crystal box.
