Chapter One

11 years later

"Mom! I said enough!"

"No! I need more!"

"Mom no!"

SLAP

I fall backwards and land on the glass table. Shards of glass in my shoulder. I scream in pain. Blood falls down my arm and drips from my fingers.

"Honey, I'm so sorry!" I get up and run upstairs to collect the little things I have left. I run back down the stairs and start to head for the door, but mom grabs my arm and tries to pull me back. I kick her and she falls to the floor, letting my arm go. "No! Stevie! I'm sorry!"

"I ignored her and left."

Wanda looks up from her notebook. "And that's the last time you saw her?"

I nod still looking out the window and thinking about that day. It was my 15th birthday. Some birthday it was. I'm 18 now and still in foster care. Wanda is my foster mother/ caretaker ever since I showed up at her building 3 years ago. She owns a foster place for homeless kids like myself. I stumbled upon this place as I was heading to god knows where. I told her everything. Minus the part were I killed Rick. I never told anyone. Always kept it to myself. Right now, I'm sitting in her office and having a daily session with her like always.

"What are you planing to do now since your 18?"

"I was thinking about going back to West Virginia. Back to my hometown." Summersville, WV. My hometown. The one place were so many things happened. Yet, I can't go anywhere else.

"Are you sure that's a good idea? So many things happened there. Are you ready to go back?" She looks at me with worried eyes.

"I'll be fine. My aunt Sarah lives there. She wants me to come see her. I have to go. I need to go." I have to go back. I've been gone for too long.

"Alright. If that's what you want. I'll arrange a flight for you."

And that's how I got back home. To my hometown. To Alex.
