I roll over and check my phone, eleven thirty two. I place it back down onto its dock and sit up, rubbing my eyes to rid of the sleep crust. I threw my comforter off of me and slid on some pajama pants to walk downstairs. I'm greeted by mom wiping down the island in the kitchen, "Look who's finally up." I ignore her comment, in no mood to talk to anyone until I eat something. I peek into the dining room and see my brother and my brother in law in workout gear, about to go to the gym. I return to the cabinets and munch on a oatmeal bar.Chomping my last bite, I jump up my stairway, skipping every step or so. Entering my room once again to see a messy bed, my biggest pet peeve. I cringe and hastily make it and place my phone on top , playing some music. I open my closet door, and throw my shirt aside, dancing a bit to the tune. I'm looking through each hanger to pick my outfit, Until my music suddenly stops, "who is calling me?" I mutter under my breath. The caller ID reads: Kailie, my niece. Normally I usually don't answer, because she is eleven, and Im over hanging out with little kids. "I don't know. Maybe I'm up to playing with her today." I hit the green answer button and place it to my ear, "Hello?" I ask, still looking through my clothes. "Kennadee. Please help, My daddy isn't waking up." My mouth drops open in shock, "What do you mean? What's happening? Did someone already call an ambulance?" I throw on my sleep shirt inside out and backwards without realizing it and jet downstairs. "It's okay Kailie. I swear. Let me tell my mom to call an ambulance." I look over and my brother and Ross are standing looking at me. "Mom, Kenny isn't waking up. They need an ambulance." She stands from the chair in confusion, "What are you talking about not waking up?" Only enraging me I get louder, "Mom I have no time to explain! Call an ambulance!" I hear Kailie sob through the speaker and I'm overtaken with fear. Meanwhile, my mom is answering some questions about who she is and where he Is located then ends the call to look at me. "Kennadee honey, let me talk to Kailie." She says reaching her hand to take my phone. "Kailie, grandma wants to ask some questions okay? I'll talk to you straight after." Then I hand her the phone with worry written on her face. "Sweetheart, tell me what happened.." She follows with some other medical questions due to her going to medical school, but dropping out. A couple minutes later and I'm over it, "Mom give me my phone." I say anxiously. She mutters a quick goodbye and hands me the device. "Kailie? Everything is going to be okay. Kerri is there and I'm going to try to get to your house. Okay? I love you. " I say as I walk upstairs and change my clothes. Honestly just wearing shorts and a shirt and minimal makeup, due to the fact my nephews first birthday is today and they're having his party around two. As soon as I'm done I'm back downstairs trying to find out what Is going on.
No ones here except my mom, the house empty, "mom. What's wrong?" She looks up and stress is written all over her face. "Honey, I don't know but it's out of our hands. The best we can do is pray. Your dad is over at their house and Kerri is bringing the girls over here, and Amanda and the boys are coming over too. You can't -" I cut her off, "Mom I need to go over there ! They need me! I need to do something!" She straightens her back and with a monotone voice replies, "there is nothing you can do over there that you can't do here. Now stop." And returns back to watching Roseanne reruns on the television.I'm just pacing at the door, waiting for someone to arrive. 'Nothing bad can happen to us. Maybe he's in a coma? I don't know. Maybe just exhausted from the separation with him and his wife. He's my brother. Nothing bad can happen to us.' I try to reason everything that's happening, before I realize my sister, Amanda, is pulling up in the driveway with all three boys, Wesley, Grayson, and Ethan. They run out of the car and Mandy is on the phone talking to someone. The boys running at us, not knowing that anything is happening, but Wesley, being the oldest, suspects something. You can tell by all the questions he keeps asking. Ethan runs up to my mom and kisses her, "happy birthday baby!" She coos. "How old are you now?" He giggles and says something incomprehensible except the number five. Grayson yells from afar, "No he isn't! He's only one!" She sucks her teeth at Gray, because she knows he's just jealous, because his birthday was just four days ago and he had turned five. Wesley walking off on his own.
