one month later
Chaeyoung put her phone down and checked the clock on the wall. She noted that Lisa should be here soon. Just as she was grabbing her bag, her doorbell rang.
Once she opened the door, ready to ask Lisa where they wanted to get breakfast today, the woman standing in front of her wasn't Lisa.
"Jennie."
"Why am I annoying again?" The brunette pouted, arms crossed in feigned irritation.
And Chaeyoung couldn't believe that Jennie was really here in front of her. She hadn't seen her in months—didn't know when she would see her next. Turns out the moment that Chaeyoung had been dreaming of was here. Jennie was right here.
"You're here," Chaeyoung stated, still in a trance.
"I am." Jennie replied.
"You're here," Chaeyoung repeated, as if she couldn't believe herself what she was saying.
Jennie laughed and stepped forward, "Yeah, I'm here, Rosie."
"But... Wait, you said—h-how are you here?" Chaeyoung had to blink back a few times and convince herself that this wasn't a dream.
"I drove here," Jennie replied, as if the answer was obvious.
Chaeyoung playfully rolled her eyes, "I didn't mean it literally."
Jennie shrugged, grinning. "I told you I was coming back today, right?"
"You told me five minutes ago, Jen," Chaeyoung whined. "Give me some warning, won't you?"
Jennie laughed and leaned forward to engulf the blonde in a hug. And Chaeyoung wanted to cry because of how nice it felt to have Jennie back in her arms. Half a year of not seeing the brunette was too long.
"You were texting me everyday about how much you missed me," Jennie mumbled, her face nestled in the crook of Chaeyoung's neck. "I just had to come home. Can't let my Rosie miss me too much."
Chaeyoung tightened her grip around Jennie. "That's right. You can't go anywhere anymore, got it?" She told her jokingly.
Jennie giggled, "I'm all yours now."
"Forever?"
"That sounds nice," Jennie replied.
"See?" Chaeyoung pulled back and cupped Jennie's face. "Told you I'll find you again."
Jennie scrunched her nose at the younger girl, flashing the latter her gummy smile. "It took years, but we're here."
Chaeyoung smiled, it really took them years of heartache to figure out they were only meant for each other.
But here they were. Despite everything, they were able to find and love each other again. Staring at Jennie in front of her, Chaeyoung could feel her heart beating rapidly. Jennie looked the same. Her hair was a bit longer, her skin was a little tanner, but her smile was still the same as always. She was still Chaeyoung's Jennie.
Chaeyoung took a deep breath, overwhelmed by the love she had for the brunette in front of her.
Jennie raised her eyebrows, "Are you okay?"
"Yeah. I just love you so much, it's kind of overflowing my chest and making it hard to breathe."
Jennie rolled her eyes and planted a kiss on the blonde's cheeks. "You're too cheesy for your own good."
"Only for you," Chaeyoung grinned and dragged Jennie inside her apartment.
Chaeyoung watched as Jennie went straight into the kitchen and rummage around for some snacks. Chaeyoung laughed at her behaviour only to be greeted by a sheepish smile from Jennie and a remark from the brunette that she just got off a long flight and her stomach was begging for food.
Chaeyoung stepped inside the kitchen and hugged Jennie from behind, stopping the older girl's movements entirely. "I'll cook you something," Chaeyoung whispered in the brunette's ear. "How about that?"
"Yeah?" Jennie turned around and grinned at the blonde. "My favourite, please?"
Chaeyoung hummed, "Alright, one kimchi fried rice coming up."
Jennie squealed and did a little jump in response, "You're the best. I love you."
"Only cause I'm making you some fried rice?"
"You're always the best," Jennie replied as she leaned against the kitchen counter. "And I'll always love you."
Chaeyoung stopped looking around for the ingredients to the fried rice once she heard what Jennie said. She turned to Jennie, her smile so big that she was afraid she looked stupid at how enormous it was. "For the record, Jen, I'll always love you too."
Chaeyoung really meant what she said that day. Even when Jennie left once more—for good this time, Chaeyoung never once stopped loving her (she's sure Jennie's the same, up there—wherever she is).
