Wide awake while the world sound asleep in'
Too afraid of what might show up while your dreamin'
Nobody, nobody, nobody sees you
Nobody nobody nobody would believe you

Winston was the younger sister of Zelda. While she was adored by the castle guards and her family, she wasn't very well-liked at school. She only had one best friend, Vaati. The only downfall is she was in love with him, yet he was with the queen bee of the school, the one who hated her the most. Vaati and Winston used to be so close until she came along, then they started talking less and less. Which made Winston even more depressed. On top of her depression, Winston would have vivid dreams like her sister. But no one knew about them except Vaati.

Winston climbed out of bed and rubbed her eyes. It was another sleepless night for her. She yawned and wrapped herself in her gold cape to keep her warm and slipped her slippers on and crept up to the roof of the castle to watch the stars in the night sky. Each time she saw a shooting star she would make a wish for her best friend to talk to her more. He was the only one who listened to her pain and distress.

As Winston was watching the stars, wrapped in her cape, she heard footsteps walk towards her. Winston quickly looked to see who it was and to her surprise, it was Vaati.

"What are you doing out here at this time of night, mage boy?" Winston asked. Winston gave Vaati that nickname when they first met. She called him it ever since.

"Needed someone to talk to. I know you always listen to me."

"Of course I do. We're best friends aren't we?" Winston actually dreaded that answer. Vaati's girlfriend, Hilda, always controlled him. Who he spoke to, what he did. He always had to have her permission. Winston hated it, but she couldn't do anything about it. But she didn't dare tell anyone about this because everyone would laugh at her. She didn't even tell her sister, and her sister listened to EVERYTHING Winston would say.

"Actually, Winston...about that...we need to talk." Winston then was petrified of those words. She knew nothing good ever came from those types of words.

"What's troubling you?" Vaati looked down, hiding the tears gushing out of his eyes. He choked on a sob as he spoke the following words.

"We can't be friends anymore..." Winston's heart stopped. Those words were like a knife in her heart. It's like her whole world ended. Her eyes filled with tears.

"Why....why not? We've been friends since we were 6. What changed?" Winston was shaking. She couldn't believe after 10 years of friendship, Vaati was just now throwing it all away.

"Hilda said I couldn't be your friend...I...I'm so sorry...." Vaati said as he stood up to walk away. Winston kept staring at her feet.

"I understand..." She spoke as she got up and returned to her room leaving Vaati to cry alone, and her to cry herself to sleep.

Every day you try to pick up all the pieces
All the memories, they somehow never leave you
Nobody, nobody, nobody sees you
Nobody nobody nobody would believe you

The following days were a nightmare for Winston. She now sat alone in the cafeteria. She would pick at her food. Most days she didn't eat lunch. To be honest, she hasn't been eating in a week. Winston would watch as the queen bee would boss Vaati around like a servent. Parts of her were pissed off that he would choose a control freak like Hilda, she wanted to scream at him for letting a woman use him like that. But what could she do? At least Vaati's happy right?

Winston tried to so hard to push away her depression by channeling it into art, and music.  But her music always came out sad so it wasn't an option for her anymore. No matter what, she just couldn't deny the fact that she lost her best friend. And parts of her couldn't handle it much.

God only knows what you've been through
God only knows what they say about you
God only knows how it's killing you
But there's a kind of love that God only knows
God only knows what you've been through
God only knows what they say about you
God only knows the real you
There's a kind of love that God only knows.

The one person who Winston didn't know seen her pain, was her own sister, Zelda. Zelda sees her pain and tries to comfort her with her favorite meals and tries to get her to do fun stuff like go horseback riding. But soon she realized that not even those things were working. Zelda sighed.

You keep a cover over every single secret
So afraid if someone saw them they would leave.

Weeks turned into a couple of months and Winston's depression got worse than ever. She rarely ate. She locked herself in her room unless it was to go to school. She started to cut even. But she hid it with long sleeves. The bullying got worse after Vaati stopped being her best friend.

But somebody, somebody somebody sees you
Somebody, somebody will never leave you

Vaati noticed that Winston was getting worse. Winston was skinnier than normal. He noticed she came to school less and less. He was starting to regret choosing his girlfriend over her. Maybe he shouldn't have buried his feelings all that time ago. He couldn't help but feel like it was his fault.

While Vaati was staring at his plate of food he noticed everyone running to the roof of the school. Vaati heard some yelling about a fight. His curiosity got the best of him and he followed the crowd.

Once he reached the top he froze. He was horrified to see the girl he once called his best friend and his girlfriend fighting. Winston was on the ground while Hilda continued to kick her side. Hilda continued to do this and just before Vaati stepped up, Winston snatched her leg and made Hilda lose her balance and fall.

"I am so sick and tired of you pushing me around and beating me down every single day!" Winston growled as she rose to her feet. She then yanked Hilda up by her hair and slapped her across the face. Vaati was speechless. Though he was with Hilda, he loved Winston and hoped nothing bad happened to her.

For the lonely, for the ashamed
For the misunderstood and the ones to blame
What if we could start over
We could start over
We could start over

Vaati stood speechless as the fight carried out. As Vaati watched, things took a huge turn for the worst. Hilda smirked as she twisted Winston's arm and whirled her around. Both were close to the edge of the roof. Everyone went from cheering them on to silence.

Winston tried to pull herself away from Hilda's grasp but couldn't. She saw Hilda smirk which made Winston pale, her Hylian ears lower and she gulped. What was Hilda planning? Her thoughts were answered when Hilda pushed Winston over the edge. Winston grabbed the ledge of the roof but she didn't know how long she could hold on to it.

Vaati's eyes went from shocked to pissed as he ran forward and threw Hilda to the ground.

   "Vaati? What was that for?"

"You know exactly what that was for. For the way you treat Winston every day!"

"Don't you think she deserves it?" Hilda asked acting innocently. Vaati only growled at this, gritting his teeth trying not to yell.

"No. She never deserved it. She didn't deserve it then, she doesn't deserve it now!" Vaati shouted.

"What? Why are you sticking up for her?"

"Because HILDA, there was a time I was her best friend. I was all she had until you came along. Once upon a time, I was in love with her, until you waltzed along and stopped it. You destroyed a friendship that lasted for 10 years, and you should be ashamed!" Vaati growled stomping towards Hilda making her scurry away from him.

"I hope this all comes back and bites you in the ass Hilda! We're through." And with those words, Vaati turned around and pulled Winston up from the ledge. Once he did that, Winston clubg to Vaati, tears running down her face.

   "Is what you said true?"

"Of course. I loved you when we were kids. And I love you now." Vaati smiled before he claimed her lips with his.
