WITH a chilling shock, Anastasia's eyes shot open

WITH a chilling shock, Anastasia's eyes shot open. A burning iciness covered her body, making her want to shrivel into herself. Through the darkness, a single beam of light illuminated the room.

Her lungs burned inside her chest and all she wanted to do was get out of the plane. With as much strength as she could bear, Anastasia swam for the glass window.

She noticed it was completely smashed in, allowing her to easily slip through and head for the surface. Her arms pumped and her legs kicked with empty adrenaline. The water surface beckoned for her, offering small waves and the promise of air beyond it.

Just as her breath let out, she broke the surface, inhaling loudly. The frigid Arctic air pierced through her lungs, feeling as if they were on fire. Anastasia's lungs filled with oxygen and sent another slap of shock through her body. Her arms flailed widely as if she was gonna drown in the next second.

In the dark, she spotted sheets of ice, before swimming towards it. Giving a final kick, Anastasia flung herself onto the ice, rolling to safety. As soon as she was on all fours, her stomach turned, resulting in her throwing up a stomach full of water.

She wiped her mouth lazily, before collapsing on her back. She stared up at the sky with heavy lids. No stars were in sight. Her stomach turned again before her vision blurred slightly; hypothermia was starting to set in.

Groaning from aching bones, Anastasia stood and shuffled away from the water's edge. She tried to call out multiple times, but her voice wouldn't go past her lips since her teeth trembled too much.

She hugged her arms close, trying to squeeze any more body heat she could from herself. Her hands were blue, and Anastasia couldn't feel her toes.

What seemed like hours, Anastasia looked around, not recognizing where they were. "S-Steve?"

The wind howled back with rage, nearly pushing her over. She stumbled on, hoping...praying to find someone. Gazing over her shoulder once more, the water was nowhere in sight. Tears welled in her eyes.

Anastasia attempted to take another step forward but collapsed suddenly. Her cheek hit the snow and ice, cutting it. Lying on her side, a smile slowly crept upon her lips as the shivering stopped. Her eyes were heavier than before and she felt extremely drowsy.

"W-W-What a way...to go, huh, Buck?" She whispered in the dark, barely being able to talk correctly. Anastasia felt it inside of her.

She wasn't able to say goodbye properly, to anyone. Steve, Bucky, Peggy, Howard, the Howling Commandos.

Hell, even the Colonel.

"If...if only Steve were here. I-I'll see you soon, my love."

Her knees slid up to her chest, and Anastasia's eyes closed without another breath.

A FEW MONTHS LATER

A flashlight shone over the dead land. They had heard of the crash, and hoped of finding Johann in the area. A small group of men spread out, on the search.

A man with dark hair shuffled along the ice, accidentally tripping on something and falling. He shouted his protest before flashing the light at it. At first, he thought it was a chunk of ice, but looking closer, he noticed the curve and outline of a human.

"Hey! I found something!" The man shouted in German, shuffling towards it and sitting on his knees.

The other four were quick to join the first man, and they swatted and removed the built-up snow on the body. They saw it was a woman, dressed in SHIELD gear, making them grimace instantly. A second man cocked his gun, aiming it at her pale blue face.

A third slapped it away, "Are you insane?! She's already dead."

"We could bring her in. See if she knows anything." Another suggested. They were all quiet for a moment, before starting to pry her from the ice.

"You think they will be able to bring her back?" The first one asked.

"You kidding? We've done more difficult tasks than that. Lift her."

Her jacket ripped against the ice, and they carried her back to the snowmobiles they travelled by.

When she was wrapped in a tarp and tied down to the back of one, they surveyed the land once more.

"Should we look further?"

The first shook his head, returning his mask over his mouth and nose. "No, there's nothing left."

The five set out, going back to the Hydra base they came from to resurrect a special Agent.
