The door chime rang loudly as Emma Swan stepped inside Granny's Diner on her lunch break. She was on a grab and go for both her and her father, David, for two cheeseburgers with a hot cocoa with cinnamon for her and a regular coke for him. They had just finished organizing the police station and installing new technology that was up-to-date and working properly. The old equipment was falling apart, some of it literally. The task took over three days and both her and David were relieved to be finished.
She found a seat at the bar and was immediately greeted by Ruby. "Emma! How may I help you?"
"Two cheeseburgers, a coke, and a hot cocoa to go, please." She smiled to her.
"Alright, coming right up!"
Soon, Emma was on her way back to the station. She piled the food into the passenger side of her yellow bug and returned to the station in minutes, hauling it all back inside.
"Dad, I'm back!"
"Good, I thought I was gonna starve if you got back here a minute later." He said and took a bag from her hand.
"Oh please." She smiled.
The two made small talk in between bites about the new equipment or cases they had been working on. In Storybrooke, the only time when large investigations ever really occurred was when monsters attacked or evil queens and people mysteriously showed up. The people of Storybrooke were all peaceful, but as always, there were the occasional altercations that needed to be taken care of and sorted out with the residents, then it was back to the station for paperwork and random duties.
Soon after, David left to go home when his shift ended. Emma's shift was only a few hours longer, until her son, Henry, got out of school. She only regularly stayed at the station until he got out of school unless she had a case to work on, then Henry would go stay with his adoptive mom, Regina, while Emma worked until even the latest hours to finish a case.
The door of the station opened up and Henry walked in. "Hey mom!"
She looked over to him. "Hey kid! Let me grab my stuff and we'll go."
"You got everything set up finally! This stuff is all cool!"
Emma smiled at her sons enthusiasm. She grabbed her coat and threw it over her shoulders, taking her car keys from the desk and her phone. "Alright, tech-freak, let's go home before you go ballistic on this stuff."
The two walked to the bug and climbed in.
"So, have you finished unpacking your stuff?" She asked him.
"I'm finished. Are you?"
"Not quite, with all the new equipment coming in I just haven't had the time to unpack yet."
Emma pulled the car up to their new apartment complex. Just two weeks ago, she had decided on an apartment so she could get out of her parents place, more for her and Henry's sake, and so that David and Mary Margaret could have a normal home to raise her younger brother, Neal, in. Besides, at thirty, Emma didn't want to be living at her parents with her teenage son and boyfriend, so they found a cheap apartment near the station and were in the process of unpacking and turning the place into a home.
"I can help you unpack if you want?" Henry asked, holding the door open for her.
"Not unless your homework is finished." Emma told him.
"Okay."
Emma took the apartment keys out and unlocked the door. Henry went to the loft upstairs to begin his homework almost immediately and Emma tossed all her stuff at the kitchen bar table. As she hung her coat up, a voice called out to her.
