This is my second Harry Potter fanfic. I wrote another one years ago but wasn't able to complete it, so here goes nothing!

The Potter family seemed like any other in the wizzarding community. They took many pictures, they smiled constantly, ate family dinners and did everything that a happy family would, but they were different from other magical families.
Every Sunday they would travel into the muggle world for dinner with Mrs. Potter's sister and her family. Although she disliked magic, Mrs. Dursley was willing to look past that because of how much she loved her sister. The two had been close for their entire lives and weren't going to let a little magic get in the way of that. Mr. Potter and Mr. Dursley got on quite well too. Mr. Dursley would teach the other about all things muggle and Mr. Potter would show him all sorts of magical anomalies. He even taught the other man a few potions that he could brew, being that potions didn't require any magical ability.
Their children got along even better, even if they were both under a year old. All in all, they were happy to be together.
It was Saturday evening and James and Lily Potter were preparing the dish they would take with them to the Dursley's house with them the next day. Harry sat in his highchair eating his supper as his parents cooked.
Once they were done they cleaned him up and put him in his pajamas. He wore blue footy pajamas with fluffy white clouds all over and a bear on the seat. They walked him into the small nursery where the walls were painted whit and it had dark stained wood floors. There were family pictures decorating the walls that smiled down at little Harry as his parents placed him in bed. They kissed their son goodnight. James turned on a music box with a flick of his wand and he and Lily started to walk out of the room. Suddenly James stopped. He held his arm out in front of Lily to stop her from leaving the room.
"Stay with Harry," he said without taking his eyes off the doorway.
"James what-"
"Someone just aparated. I felt the wards change. Someone is in the house," he said as he got his wand back out. "Stay with Harry," he repeated before cautiously walking out of the nursery. He turned back a few steps away and looked Lily in the eye. "I love you."
"I love you too," she said back without question. After he walked away she shut the door and locked it. Then she heard a crash. There was yelling and the sound of curses being thrown.
"LILY! HE'S COMI-" Lily's eyes widened as his voice was cut off. A green light flashed in the crack between the door and the floor. she backed up against the crib where her sleeping son lay with her wand held at the ready. The doorknob shook before a light 'alohomora' was whispered.
"STAY BACK! I WILL KILL YOU!" Lily yelled in hopes of scaring off the intruder. The door opened to reveal a tall slender man. His bright eyes gleamed in the dark of night. The man wore long dark robes that dragged on the floor. His slim bony fingers were wrapped around a pale wooden wand.
"My dear Lily... We both know that you could never kill me." A wicked smile spread itself across his face.
"STAY AWAY!" Tears flowed down her face and her hands shook as she clutched her wand even tighter.
"Step away from the child and I will let you live," the man said calmly.
Lily lowered her head and her wand. What he didn't know was that she cast a spell over her son that would reveal the truth of that night when he was ready to know it.
Taking this as a surrender the man stepped forward, ready to kill the sleeping child. Lily snapped her head up and whipped her hand up to his face.
"STU-"
"AVADA KADAVERA!" The light left Lily's eyes as the green curse lit up the room. The man walked up to the now awakened child. "Young Harry, do not despair. The death of you and your parents will serve as a great sacrifice for the greater good of the wizzarding world." He lifted his wand once again and cast the same spell that had killed the other two members of the Potter family.
Harry Potter was dead. The man left quickly, knowing that others would arrive soon. James had sent out a distress signal during their fight. He aparated away with a sharp 'pop' just as Severus Snape aparated into the half fallen house. The last thing he saw was Snape staring into his sharp blue eyes through his half moon spectacles.
Snape quickly pulled up his sleeve and pressed the tip of his wand to his forearm. There was another popping sound as a man with dark brown hair and bright red eyes appeared next to a distraught Snape.
"Severus! What happened here?!" He looked around at the destruction and death.
"D-Dumbledore... he-he..." He couldn't finish his sentence as he caught sight of Lily who lay on the floor with her lifeless eyes wide open. He rushed to her side and lifted her body to his chest. "No...NO! NO!!" He sobbed as he held her lifeless body.
"Severus, we will avenge them. I swear this to you," he said as he placed a hand on the grieving man's trembling shoulder.
"Their son," Snape said, looking up quickly. "Harry!" He placed Lily's body down gently and rushed to the crib. He lifted the child's limp body from it's resting place. "My Lord, he's alive!" He ran a hand over Harry's face, gently brushing his thick black hair away to reveal a nasty cut that resembled a lightning bold.
"Does he have any other family Severus?"
"Yes, a muggle aunt and uncle in Little Whinging," he said without taking his eyes off of the child in his arms.
"I know this is hard, but we have to take him to them. He is in too much danger if we don't. Dumbledore is likely to blame me for this. If he knows that the boy is still alive he'll come for him. There is only so much I can do to protect him, but he is safer with the muggles."
Snape nodded and wrapped Harry in a bundle of blankets.
Thirty minutes later they were on the doorstep of number 4 Privet Drive laying down a sleeping Harry Potter along with a note that explained what had happened to the Potters as well as explaining that Dumbledore cannot be trusted. Then, with heavy hearts, they said farewell to Harry.
Harry Potter had a very difficult life ahead of him, but the two men that rescued him that day would do all they could to make it a little bit easier.
