❀ Keith's POV
I run my thumb across the diamond bracelet in my hand. I turn it over again and look at the inscription.
Congratulations on entering an exciting stage in life. Never change a thing because you're beautiful just the way you are. Love, Marsh.
Who was Marsh? Her boyfriend?
I shrug.
What do I care?
I hear Dallas' voice from a distance and I tuck the bracelet into my pocket. I pretend to be distracted.
“... for sale” he pauses. “You've been awfully quiet since we got back from our investigation yesterday.”
I shrug, hand in my pocket.
“What do you want me to say?” I ask, toying with the glass of whiskey in my hand.
“I don't know. But I expected you to taunt me about how right you were that we weren't going to find anything back there.”
But we did find something.
Dallas just didn't know I found something; the bracelet. I shrug again.
“I'm tired of being right all the time Dallas,” I say.
“Huh. Well someday I'm going to be right and you'll be wrong.”
“I look forward to seeing that day man.”
I take a sip of the whiskey.
“And what are you doing?” he asks.
“Admiring this painting,” I say. “I'd never actually noticed it before.”
“Dude, that's the first thing everybody notices when they walk in here. It's ducks playing poker!”
“Well, I am now noticing it Dallas.”
He sighs. The doorbell dings.
“Are you expecting someone?” I ask.
“No, are you?”
I shake my head. He gasps excitedly.
“Maybe it's one of my call girl friends.”
“You have friends who are call girls?”
Kimberly, where are you?
“I'll go see” he grins and walks off rubbing his palms together excitedly.
I shake my head and finish off the whiskey. I just hope it wasn't a call girl.
“Adalynn?!” Dallas' voice echoes.
“Great! This one happens to have my mother's name” I whisper.
“Sydney! Vanessa!”
And my sisters'.
This is too much of a coincidence.
“Where's Keith?” I hear a voice ask.
“Around... hey Vanessa slow down!” Dallas yells.
“Kee!” Vanessa shrieks and runs up to hug me.
“Ness, what are you doing all the way here in Chicago?”
