CHAPTER 4
I was in my room...looking at an old photo. It was me as a kid with a friend who was a little taller than I was in the photo...but was a half-breed vampire unlike I was. At the time I was jealous of him but not in a bad way. The kids father was always busy but his father helped protect the orphanage I was being raised in. Any trouble we got into as kids...his father bailed us out of, but as we grew up...we started to mature in completely different ways. I was in a relationship with someone I cared about and she was human. I was still getting into trouble with my friend but it wasn't just me and him...he brought along his clan friends. Plus the stakes were getting higher. I even got bailed out of the local jail once by my girlfriend Elenia.
She eventually gave me an ultimatum...either break up with someone I truly loved, or cut ties with my friend. Now under normal circumstances, I would convince her of a third option...sometimes through sex but this was different. I'll explain...when I said that my friend and I had matured as we grew up. I matured to not be as self centered and not as reckless...he on the other hand, matured to willing to follow in his fathers footsteps and take up the family business.
What was the family business you might ask? Well, it was nothing short of illegal arms deals, drug trade, trafficking of all types and crimes ranging from petty theft to...well...you don't want to know the details. I never really participated in most of it...but when it came to helping out my friend...I helped him out a couple of times as long as he helped me in return. Basically the moral law of equivalent exchange...if you want to put it that way.
I truly loved Elenia...we loved each other. How far would I go for her at the time. Well, lets just say that the FBI was harassing her about my relations with my friend and the clan and I...snuck into one of the agents house and put a note written in deer blood making a promise to back off...basically I nearly became a federal criminal. Granted she did get mad when she found out and I slept on the couch for a whole year but it worked because they backed off.
I made my choice to stay by her side and break ties with my friend. I went and told him and he was not too happy. I still remember it like it was yesterday. Dear god its flashback time again isn't it? Here we go...
Meanwhile...in an empty ally in downtown Houston, Texas. Well past nine years ago...
I was pulling into the alleyway that was poorly lit by local lamps in downtown Houston. I turned off the car and my headlights went off. The classic engine of the 1970's charger going quiet. I get out of the car, the slight cool breeze hits my hair as I shut my car door. I see the Suzuki motorcycle and my friend leaning against it. He stands straight up and walks towards me...we shake hands and hugged. "Hey man...how's the gal?" He asked. I sigh and speak.
"That's actually what I wanted to talk to you about...She gave me a choice." I stated. "A choice? You mean an ultimatum?" He asked. "It was her or you...I'm sorry." I said. He stood and looked at me...shocked. "W-wait...So you chose her over your own friend...over someone you've known for fuck how long now?!" He exclaimed. I put my hands up slightly and tried to calm him down. "Look man...I don't want to lose her...she can't deal with the stress of bailing my ass out of everything we do." I retorted. He put his hands in his hair. "What about the clan...what are they going to do...Mark come on...we're practically brothers!" He exclaimed. I said I was sorry and walked away walking towards my car. I got in and backed out the alleyway. I then drove back home...I called Elenia.
"Hey babe...yeah...it's over...I told him. I'm on my way home...Love you too...bye" I Hung up the phone.
Back in Mark's room at the manor...present day...
I put the picture up in my drawer. I then stood up and just as I was about walk out the door of my room, I got a phone call through the landline. I picked it up...I already knew who it was that was on the other on. "Yes, Sir Integra? So you've found their location...I'll be on my way out." I then hung up, pulled out my revolvers, checked them, spun the cylinders and holstered them.
I then proceeded towards the garage. My motorcycle was waiting for me. I started the custom Harley and rev'd the engine. Sounded perfect...it sounded free and like a thoroughbred ready to ride. I grinned as the garage door opened and I could see the gate open too. Anna Lily was on her custom Ducati. I looked at her and she was looking at me. "Lets ride!" I said as rode forward, Anna following behind me. As we left through the gate, we did a small wheelie and rode forward into the night.
I felt the wide in my hair and around me. The cool nights breeze was somewhat relaxing to me. I saw the hologram display in the center of my bike of the Commodore. "Mark can you hear me?" He asked. "Loud and clear." I responded. "Good, We've picked up a report of someone matching the description of the Russian and the other two suspects...they were spotted at the top of big ben. We don't know what they're up to but try not to cause any commotion. Our elite operatives are tailing them as we speak...once your in the area, we'll try to evacuate some of the civilians." He explained.
I sighed. "Oh come on Commodore...your taking the fun out of this." I joked. "This is serious..." The Deputy Director chimed in. "...If we don't catch them or kill them now then they might leave." She stated. "I don't think they'll leave..." Anna started. "What makes you say that Anna?" Deputy Director asked. "Well...If they're after my master then I don't think they'll leave the country willingly." Anna answered. I chuckled. "You're not wrong there." I commented.
A few minutes later, we arrive near big ben and we turn off our cycles and stand them up on their kickstands. I'm going to be honest with you...we stick out like a sore thumb. One of the Elites walks up to us..."we lost them at Soho Square." The Female Elite stated. "Understood...Anna, you get up on the rooftops and start looking, I'll head to Soho Square." I ordered. She nodded and with a swift jump she was on the rooftop...I started making my way to the square.
I made my way to Soho Square, crowds of people around me...I got a feeling that I was being watched. I nodded at one of the undercover Elite's as a signal to start evacuating people...but just when I do that. I hear Anna telepathically yell... "Master...look out!" I see that there is a suspicious bag in front of a cafe that I am not that far from and I look across the way to see a reflective flash and then a gunshot fires...hits the bag then it explodes...partially shredding my clothes but then a chain reaction happens and several other explosion happen with the vicinity.
Debris was flying everywhere and when the explosions stop, I could hear the crying and screaming from bystanders, local police and from our own operatives alike. Just as I was about to tend to people...I hear a loud screech and the same winged figure from before attacked me by shoving a huge gust of wind, sending me flying into a damaged bookstore, along with a few bits of rubble and some people. Just as the creature was about to charge at me with its claws, Anna jumps on top of it and stabs one of her katana's into its back...the creature screams as it rockets into the air, carrying Anna with her into the sky. I get up and rush outside...I look up to try and find her...big mistake.
I get shot in the nuts probably by the same sniper...whom I assume is the Kyber. The initial pain hits me like a bus running a stop sign while speeding in a school zone. I slightly struggle to stand up as I see a familiar figure walk towards me. "How's Elenia, Mark?" The figure's voice ask in a cocky tone. The dust slightly clears and I see the figure...My greeting to him...
