[Hey guys! Sorry it took so long to update but I had to much stress with school and stuff so I wasn't able to post this until now. Sorry it's short, I'm trying to make it longer. I just ask for you to be a little patient with me because this is my first published story. Thanks so much for actually reading! Later, alligators!]
I look into Damon's shy blue eyes as mine widen when the words he said. I look down at my arms and just now notice the white bandages that are wrapped around my wrists and forearm. My skin so pale that it nearly blends in with the bandages, I must look insanely sick for me to be this white.
I hadn't known I was crying until warm hands held my cheeks and wiped away my tears with their thumbs. "Don't cry, Jack. We'll get through this together, like we always do." Damon smiles at me but I see tears starting to form in his eyes.
He's staying strong for me, I'll try to do the same for him. "Ok, Damon."
He smiled down at me then took out his phone. "Let me call Scarlet and your parents so they know you're ok and awake."
"Where are they? And who's Scarlet?"
"Your parents are out of town on business and are trying to get a flight back but they won't be back until tomorrow night. You've been staying with me for the past week. And Scarlet..."
"Scarlet....?"
He looks up at me and smiles but the light doesn't reach his eyes. "She's your girlfriend." I looked at him and based how I feel around him, I'm not so sure I even like girls. "She went out of town for cheerleading camp but she'll be back tomorrow as well."
"How long have we been dating?"
"Going on six months. I'm surprised you remember me but not her, then again I have been your best friend since we were seven and she's only been friends with us since we were ten, so I guess it makes since."
I just nod my head at him and let the words sink in. 'Girlfriend huh?....nope. Doesn't sound right.' I sigh and look up at Damon. "Thanks for getting me here. It means a lot that you were there when you were."
He shakes his head and gives me a small, sad smile as his tanned hand rests on my pasty white one. "I wish I was there to stop you." He shakes his head again and smiles a little wider. "The main thing is that you're alive and okay. That's all that matters." He brushes my hair behind my ear and lightly caresses my cheek with his free hand. "Get some sleep, Jack."
With those words and the reassurance of him being there when I wake up, I fall asleep listening to the sound of his voice as he hums a song that seems so familiar. I smile at that thought and let sleep fully take me into it's hold.
