CHAPTER IX
C H O I C E B E T W E E N T W O H E A R T S
It's the wedding day of Edward's brother. We have made it to the event but we are still on our uniforms. It's not a big deal anyway since we're not actually the main guests. But, what Rachel said, "Charlotte has a very big secret to protect.", is still stuck in my mind. I can't stop guessing what's the truth behind the secret.
Before the ceremony, someone in charge of publicity for the ceremonial hall approached us. She gave us an offer; a couple to be models for a pamphlet. Rebecca thought that we were too young for it. She insisted that it's perfect for students in high school. She also said that Rebecca and Charlotte would be ideal bridal models for the wedding dresses. They gave it a thought for a second. Finally, decided to do it and signed a contract. The woman said that I could come and see the shoot, too.
We waited half an hour before the ceremony started. The newly married couple, Raymond and her wife have arrived. As they were passing through the red carpet, we gave them a huge applause. Special people of the couple gave their heartwarming speeches. If Rebecca and I will end up getting married and having ceremonies like this, everything that happened between me and Charlotte will be like it never existed.
On the other table, there sits Rebecca and Charlotte having a conversation together. Suddenly Charlotte, with a gloomy look in her face, said, "Invite me to your wedding."
"What?" Rebecca became baffled.
"It'd be perfect for you to sparkle and being happy like she is. I'll even give you a speech if you want. I'm kidding. But I really am looking forward to it."
During the picture taking, I suddenly felt that my phone isn't in my pocket. I went back to the venue where the ceremony happened. I can see it on the table. Gosh, I'm so amnesiac. Then I noticed Charlotte, with her knees to the ground and crying. "Charlotte, are you okay?" I asked.
"The ceremony just made me a little emotional."
"Really? You don't look fine though."
Charlotte then looked at Brian's eyes.
"I'm sorry. I lied again."
"Then, what's wrong?"
"I can't tell you. I'm sorry."
Rebecca wonders where Brian and Charlotte are.
"Isn't there anything I can do?"
"I don't care... I don't care if it's a lie. Tell me that you love me!"
Without hesitation, I immediately grabbed her arms and kissed her.
At that moment, there stood Rebecca behind a slightly opened door, watching Brian and Charlotte kissing.
There was no lie in what I felt at that moment. But I regretted on the way home. It was a careless thing to do. Seeing Charlotte forcing herself to smile even though it was impossible for her. She looked so different from the night we first kissed. She was closer to me today than the day where my eyes would follow her in the classroom. And yet she felt further away than ever. What can I do for Charlotte? In the end... Maybe all I did was hurt her when I didn't need to. But, I notice something strange during that kiss. Her lips were pale and her body was cold like it was lifeless. Is she somehow sick?
