The moment Jack entered dr. Du Maurier's office his whole plan fell through. It was right there, written in blood on the wall "Dark Symphony". How could he have found out ? Someone must have spilt the beans. Was it Bedelia who was now laying in her own blood at the center of the well-decorated living room? But then again why was she even told of Will's situation? It was too late to seek answers.
" McNulty, come here"
When the young officer arrived , Jack gave handed him a small note with a number written on it , followed by an important instructions.
" Now, you'll go outside and call this number. You'll insist on talking with dr.Alana Bloom until you have her on the line and then you'll send someone to get me. It's a matter of life and death , rookie so don't fail me. Now, go"
Jack Crawford took his time to study Bedelia's body. Her death was caused by a single deep slice at the throat area with no further evidences of violence. It seemed that Hannibal didn't consider her special enough to make her murder special and intriguing. His motives were unclear but Jack had no time to investigate them since Lecter was on a killing spree.
Alana Bloom might be next since she played part in Hannibal's captivity .She was also problem in his relationship with Will, some kind of contestant for Graham's heart.
" Agent Crawford, Dr. Bloom's on the phone" the rookie yelled.
" Jack, what is it? The man who called said nothing."
" Alana, he's alive and on the run."
"He?" Doctor Bloom seemed confused for a moment." You mean...?"
"Hannibal Lecter is back and he's left already six bodies including Freddie Lound's and Dr. Du Maurier's. You might be next, Alana so I'm taking you under witness protection."
The line went silence so Jack could hear dr.Bloom's husky breathing. She was afraid.
"I'm safe Jack, the guards we have hired are more reliable than the witness protection. Don't get Margot and me involved in a situation we've been trying to escape from for so long."
"I'm not asking for your expertice, Alana. It's all about you staying alive." Jack paused for a moment "I've already lost enough people"
" I cannot feel safe around you Jack after everything what happened. You are a pawn in Lecter's game that can be eliminated with a single move."
Jack knew that Alana was right. He was uncapable of keeping her safe but yet it was his duty to make as much as possible to try to stop Hannibal Lecter. It was obvious what he had to do - Jack's only ace was the man who caused all the mess - Will Graham.
If Hannibal knew that he was alive maybe the killings would stop. And yet Crawford knew that the combination of Hannibal and Will was dangerous as well. They triggred something twisted in each other and that could cause even more troubles.
" Alana, you know how deep was Hannibal's attachment to Will and now that he's gone Lecter's revenge won't come to an end until he has killed all of us."
"Why us? It was the Tooth Fairy who wounded Will."
" Bloom, Hannibal's mind is much deeper than ours. Those last events on the cliff are not the ones who caused Will's demise. He believes that our actions led to it and therefore we must pay with blood."
The line went silent for a moment but than Jack heard a terrible banshee-like scream.
"Oh, my God! Margot! There's so much blood..."
Jack's heart skiped a beat. Lecter had found them and that meant that once again Jack failed to protect the ones he cared for.
"Alana, tell me where are you so I can send a team. Alana, do you hear me ?"
All he could hear were sobs.
"She's dead Jack. "'
"What about the boy? Where's Morgan ?"
"Thank God , he is abroad."
" Alana was there a note left inside the body or near it?"
" I cannot look at her , Jack. She's butchered like one of Mason's pigs." she took a deep breath and then went on "He's left a message on the wall. It-it is for you agent."
Jack was furious and scared at the same time. Hannibal was always few moves ahead and there's was nothing he could do about it. There was nothing he could do now that so many people have lost their lives. The game was over.
"What it says , Alana?"
"It says that the game has just begun."
